I am curious why Scott “is not the decision maker.”

Is that for money reasons?

If i am LSU i tell him look, you will resign and we will pay you 10 million. If you refuse to resign we will cut your budget for assistant coaches next year and we will spend $0 on NIL.

AD fields candidates, works through agents, comes to a decision, negotiates a preliminary contract terms, then presents that candidate to the President.

If the President agrees to the terms and approves of the candidate and the contract, then the President presents the candidate and the preliminary contract to the BOS for acceptance and approval.

The system President is the real decision maker

with an Interim President there is a power vacuum in between the AD and the BOS and agendas could interfere

in a highly politically charged environment like LA with a very high profile process like hiring the LSU Football coach that power vacuum could be really bad

on paper hiring BK in 2021 was a unexpected surprise and considered a coup

Tate firing CEO and then avoiding the noise and dispelling the SWLA Cajun mafia pushing for Napier and the DEI crew pushing Mel Tucker to present BK and 10yr/$100mm to the BOS took some balls and real stroke

that is extreme but your point that LSU could make BK miserable is well founded

Just like with Shrimpy Orgeron. Hey Brian, we do not want you here any longer. Here's 20 million (17 with O) to gtfo.....

This isn’t the slight you think it is. Landry and Woodward do not like each other.

I was talking about Tate and the fact that we don’t have a president.

This is a fine line to walk.

It makes sense as a leverage piece to get Kelly to take less (although LSU may be better off paying more monthly than less in a lump sum).

But do you want to make things so bad for Kelly next year that you can’t entice the caliber of coach LSU fans expect to hire? Why would a hotshot ACC or Big XII coach, to say nothing of SEC or Big 10, sign up to work for an AD who sabotaged the last guy on his way out the door?

It makes sense to me. Make him keep Davis and Sloan. Why would you spend 10s of millions on offensive coach buyouts/replacements and NIL money for a lame duck coach. Kelly is done here. It’s a waiting game now. If we are waiting a year, ok then save that money for the buyout.

If Kelly gets fired tomorrow, I’ll bet $1 that LSU’s attorneys will argue that Kelly could get a job in 2026 making $4 million to $6 million a year, and adjust his buyout accordingly.

I’ll take that bet. A lot of schools could do this, but none ever do. Why? You actually just made the case pretty eloquently a few posts above this. It would scare future candidates away.

A bunch of smart people sucked into living in fantasy land with their dumbass brethren today. Brian Kelly will be the LSU football coach in 2026 unless he unexpectedly dies.

By the time you factor in offsets and such, you can probably replace the entire offensive staff for under $3 million in terms of buyouts, which again are paid monthly.

LSU literally did just this with Miles so he could take the Kansas job.

And paid Orgeron full price to go away. So LSU has plenty of goodwill when it comes to paying people to go away.

Negotiating a buyout down, where the coach still gets tens of millions of dollars and maybe even gets it much sooner than the contract requires, is way different from letting him twist in the wind for an entire season with no NIL and lame duck coordinators.

Baker is 100% gone. He will likely be Tulane’s next HC.

And if you’re Kelly you give them the finger. He has all the leverage with the fully guaranteed contract fat arse Scott gave him.

It's $60M+ if you fire him today and goes down to $51M next month. He could lose out and it's still not happening.
