why would he waste time doing this
Well, for starters better culture....music, food, people, etc.
Also, cleaner environment and city, and a whole lot safer.

If you want to check out several good food and bar places in one area, I recommend the Overpass area. Probably best to go there on Friday night before the game. All these places are in that area and are within a 3 min walking radius of each other. Park and hit them all up for a nice little Baton Rouge food and bar crawl to get a taste of everything and see what place is your speed.
Parrain's for Louisiana cuisine. Definitely get the chargrilled oysters if you've never had them.
Zippy's for super laid back Mexican
Chow Yum Phat - excellent Asian food. Highly recommended.
The Overpass Merchant - Awesome burger. Awesome fried chicken sandwich with an egg on top called Hot Lonnie..superb.
DiGiulio Brothers Italian Cafe is right there too. Good local spot with solid food.
Ivar's college bar mixed with older folk and locals. Good spot to drink.
Duvic's is a dive bar right there you may want to pop in.
Kalurah Street Grill is newer place... a little pricier and fancier.
BLDG 5 is also there. Food is decent but overpriced. Nice decor...maybe pop in for a beer and then move on to the next spot.

tailgating spots
How do you know that there are different tailgating cultures in the college football universe? The word "spots" is dead giveaway.
If you can find a "spot" that is not tail gating on LSU's campus for SEC game, you are probably not on LSU's campus.
Enjoy! Walk the campus and tell people its your first time, and be ready for some great food and booze to come your way. Won't repeat what others above have said.

I would recommend dinner Friday night at Louisiana Lagniappe. Call in advance and see if you can get a reservation. Best seafood in BR, imo. Hit the Chimes early on gameday for a few drinks and food, then go tailgate. Chimes Friday night if you don't do LL.

Go see Mike in his cage before kickoff.

I’ll extend the same invite I do to all newbies and out-of-towners. We tailgate in front of the digital media building which is stadium @ Parker. It’s a family setting, so nothing too wild but we will be watching games and enjoying adult beverages. Stop on by and we’ll set you up so you don’t go hungry or thirsty. Im thinking of getting a flag made with my username because I host a couple groups a year from here.

Why all of the downvotes? It’s so true. People flock to Nola, or baton rouge thinking that’s real Cajun food. Not even close. People in Nola put tomatoes in their gumbo, and Baton Rouge is a little better but ehhhh, BR is not Cajun country I’m sorry lol. Anyways, I’m pumped for the season. Pass by our tailgate for some good ole rice and gravy

Really, lol. I’ve lived most of my life in LFT, but spent almost 10 years in NOLA (plus had close family there so have known it my whole life), lived 2 years in BTR, and about 1.5 in Alexandra. I can honestly say people from LFT are about the only people in this country for whom it is a step down food wise to move to NOLA. BTR is at best meh, and….well, Alec is a nice little town, but it is still Alec.
Not to mention all the festivals, live music, etc. in LFT. My best friend married a yankee years ago, and she said something great that has stuck with me all these years: There’s a good reason why the snobbiest people about their cities or those from LFT and NOLA.
ETA: although of course NOLA does have much more of diversity in food than LFT.

Hey guys, we're two weeks away from our trip to BR. When getting into the stadium, do you have to show your physical vaccination card/negative test or can you have a picture of it on your phone? Thanks! Can't wait to meet some great LSU fans!
