The stadium is a shithole
And personally, it really doesn't look that good when you can see the different sections. The East and West stands are different than the endzones. The endzones are different from each other. It looks pieced together.

i think its funny that all the arkansas fans had a great time tailgating...that was one of the most lame days of tailgating i've ever experienced...i saw maybe 10 visiting fans all day...for the florida game there was a group of 30 of them right across from us that we played beer pong, flip cup etc. with.
i enjoy visiting with opposing fans and we barely even saw any this week.

Agreed 100% and that's the plan.

...and take a look at Memorial Stadium over by the Governor's Mansion. Because that's about what WMS is like. A high school football stadium.
Hey, Arkansas's a poor state. It is what it is.

LSU fans don't really get up for Arky - especially this year - most LSU fans view Arky football with the same enthusiasm as a Miss. State.
Boom!

The dorm windows and fence around the stadium are embarrassing. Once inside the stadium, it's as good as anyone else's. I've been to War Memorial and I wasn't impressed. Ark really didn't travel well either. It's a shame they try to build up this game and schedule it during the Thanksgiving week. Poor attendance from both fanbases.

Correct. I don't know how a stadium could get louder than TS when LSU blocked Bama's FG last year or the Fla. game in 07 (when they announced the USC score).

lol, high schools play in better stadiums than WMS. Easily the worst place to play in the SEC

I've been in War Memorial twice, and it is the worst stadium in the conference. Vandy's is smaller and is old, but I would definitely say that its nicer than WM.
Ironically, I was in Fayetteville with my wife and kids this weekend visiting my mother-in-law. I drove by Bentonville HS's stadium and I would say that, while smaller, it is many times nicer than WM. Especially the press box. I was pretty impressed.
Anyway, most LSU fans wouldn't know it because we never play there, but Arkansas' on campus stadium is actually really nice. As much as NW Arkansas seems to have grown over the last 10 years, I really don't know why they don't move the game up there. Seems like the school would make more money, even if it wasn't a sellout. Also, I've heard that there are some limitation on recruiting visits to "alternate home venues." I think I remember Nutt complaining about this at some point.
As for TS, I love the "old, intimidating" look of the exterior. They just need to get windows on the dorm rooms and patch the ugly spots. The concourses need to be completely gutted and reworked. That is where TS really falls short of other stadiums.

The stadium WAS pieced together in the days before campus master-plans and such. The east and west side "stadium-shaped dormitories" were built in the late 1920's when Huey Long was governor.
The north end zone was built and opened by 1936 under Richard Laiche.
The south end zone was added in the late 1950s, so you're talking a period of 30 years as need arose and architectural trends changed.
Heck before east upper was built you could comment that it was uneven with only one upper deck. Then after completion of the east upper it was noteworthy that those two were different.
Love the historic/old feel of Tiger Stadium, and the way it adds to the ambiance/mystique/intimidation.

I stand by calling Death Valley a shithole but so is Wrigley Field and countless other venues that are best left untouched.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Where as Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville is a Rolls Royce with fancy leather and a smooth ride, driven by a blue-hair on the way to grocery store.........
Death Valley is a nasty arse medieval torture device that no one wants any part of.
I say you guys keep it that way.

You don't have to give me a history lesson on Tiger Stadium. I am well aware that it has been built in different phases. Most college stadiums are like that. Some manage to have a cohesive look to the stadium. Bryant-Denny for example.
I'm not saying I hate TS, but I think most LSU fans love the stadium for the atmosphere and the energy (which is the fans, not the stadium), and have rose colored glasses on when it comes to the appearence of the stadium.
I love the outside look of the stadium. I think that the supports of the upper decks should be covered or something in order to match the endzones older look.

The Arkansas game is never a barometer on our gameday experience.
It's a holiday period and national television reduces the gameday effect significantly.
Come on down for LSU/Auburn, LSU/Alabama, and LSU/Florida and you'll see the true LSU gameday experience that is not reduced by a holiday.

Great quote woopig.
I feel the same way. I love the old, weathered feel of Tiger Stadium. When I walk up the concourse and you see the old windows, it all builds up the "ghosts of Tiger Stadium" and a "Saturday night in Death Valley" thing.
I wish they would have continued the coliseum style arches around the South end. The view and photographic value of that side of the stadium is unmatched.

It's too much of a contrived "rivalry" in my opinion. We just need to face the fact that Ark and LSU are not natural rivals, no matter how much folks want to try to force it upon us.
It's okay, really.
