I don't understand this forum's infatuation with what the announcers/analysts say.

I'm watching the game and am more concerned that the producer, director, and technical crew bring their A game than what the suits in the booth say.

Great crew, not including McShay. They do many Iowa games and we love when Spielman is the the color commentator. The guy knows the game inside and out.

McDonough is a straight shooter.

When I saw Mcshay on the sidelines, I thought wtf, they can't find a hottie to do sideline reports. Hell I would have put up with Shelly (USC) Smith for that matter.

I'm not surre McShay could have passed a sobriety test.

McShay looked and sounded rough. Hungover or drinking. His pupils were dilated and looked black. He was sweaty/greasy looking and was struggling to get his thoughts out of his mouth.

McDonough (sp) was good, but Spielman had a bit of an anti-SEC vibe working with snarky and arrogant remarks, however he did make good observations like LSU's need to throw on 1st down to open up the offense.

Overall a 4.

I thought Chris was very good and fair being he's a Big 10 guy. He made good descriptions of the offenses and defenses. Sean was Sean.

Not much insightful analysis. Minimal humor from the color guy. Could have watched it on mute. Very boring.

LINK

The link is to a pretty good piece written by Kent Lowe in the LSU Sports Information Department.

Here's an excerpt:

Sean McDonough, who for LSU fans is probably best known for calling LSU’s home run that beat Miami by Warren Morris in the final game of the 1996 College World Series, did a strong job with the game along with Chris Spielman in the booth. McDonough sets the stories well, but also let’s Spielman get in and do his thing.

I'm surprised at the negative reactions to Speilman. He's highly regarded in Big Ten Country having played for Ohio State and the Detroit Lions.

I have a feeling that if he played for an SEC school and the Saints you all would be rating him much higher.

As long as it's not Jabba the Hut, Musberger, or Lou Holtz I'm ecstatic.

Are you serious? I haven't heard anyone criticize him as a player. He was legit just took too much punishment. But this thread is about him as a color commentary guy. He was pretty lame and just seemed off. He also did not speak very clearly and jumbled up a lot of what he was trying to say.

As for the SEC comment, a lot on here bash Palmer like it's their job. I find him more bearable than Spielman any day of the week. Whether I agree with everything he says is one thing but at least I can understand him.

I didn't have any particular problem with their announcing.

But that one guy is probably the baldest guy I've ever seen. I don't think he has one hair anywhere on his head or face anywhere.
