How do you handle an incident with a young player that has gotten scrutinized by fans and media over a celebration?

In the aftermath of the "heisman pose," I have heard a lot of different opinions on Fournette for that celebration.

I, personally, felt it shouldn't have been done absolutely, but at the same time he is a kid and will make mistakes. He didn't commit a crime, he didn't make some obscene gesture to visiting fans, he didn't pull out a cell phone.

Regardless of your outlook on his action, as the head coach. How do YOU handle it? Miles "spoke" to the player coming to the sidelines, looked to be obvious play-calling against him in the red zone late in the game. Would that be enough for you, or would you address it in a team meeting, private meeting?

Reason I'm asking is I have gotten a lot of. "Man that was classless, he would be still be running from his extra conditioning. "I feel he will be trouble, he needs some serious talking to." Which I feel is a bit harsh on the guy. I feel that he learned his lesson from the backlash from the media.

Miles handled it properly. Get in his ear. Who knows what extra "running" he had to do. Overall, kids will celebrate however they feel. If it is a bit out of hand, talk to them. If the problem is not corrected, start benching....

Tell him
1. To chalk it up to a lesson in humility.
2. To let his game speak for him from now on--not gimmicks.
3. frick the sports media. The only thing they love more than blowing people up is tearing them down. Play for your team, your family, and your coach--not good press.

Handle it the way he did. As for the fans and media, recognize that most of them are dumbasses, and ignore them.

What miles did was enough. A few sprints wouldn't hurt to drive home the point.(sprints optional) now you just move on and hope he learned his lesson all this other crap people forget its a game and it's fun. The kid just got caught up in the moment of scoring and having a blast. Imagine scoring your first td in front of 100k people. What he did was only classless to those who never played the game. It was a mistake but not classless.

You yell at him. Remind him he is a freshman with 3 other capable quality backs on the roster. You sit him a few series to let him know who's in charge. You tell him any other celebration like that will keep him from playing. You run him in practice. You make sure he remembers he is a freshman on a team that doesn't highlight an individual.

Then you tell him you love his confidence but he needs to control his cockiness. It'll only make him a target. And tell him you believe in him and that if he does what you ask he may very well become the next great thing. But it's not given to you as a freshman because the media talks it up. You need more than 2 decent runs to get on ESPN.

We either have the some of the absolute worst fans or some serious alters on this board. This topic has been discussed in at least twenty different threads and as soon as the thread drops down the page, it comes up again, refreshed and renewed.
Please, just stop reciting and regurgitating what someone else has stated already...

I don't check the board a whole lot. Should have searched etc. I'm not an alter and I don't mean to be that guy. I just wanted to see what additional action people would take, if any, to that situation. Regardless if it was LF or any other freshman. I just don't think it's a comfortble situation for a head coach.

I'd have done exactly what Miles did.

BTW, I disagree the CLM was obviously calling plays against him. Hilliard from the 5 in, especially this year, as a fullback, with LF at tailback isn't the same thing as throwing from the 5 on 3 consecutive plays, or putting LF as a single back and running a QB sneak.

I'd have called him over, and asked him "wtf was that all about son? Come on, you got millions of people who are going to see that, and in literally two seconds of gas on your brain, you're going to destroy goodwill that YOU'VE helped create, for several months I might ad, since signing day. This whole damn state knows you work hard, make good decisions, and bust your arse in practice. I know that because I'VE TOLD THEM THAT, and so have your teammates. Do NOT disrespect me, or them, by doing shite like that, got it?. Show a little class, son. I know you're better than that."

Then, the incident would have been forgotten, unless 7 decides he's not going to take my advice.

Kid can't win with some people. He was overrated after the Wisky game. Overly cocky after the celebration.

I think he's going to go off this Saturday and shut a lot of traps in the process.
