In their defense Joe was barely above average... BUT for good reason. O never disclosed that Joe B played with torn cartilage almost the entire season until the season was over.

Knowing that in hindsight adds to what a badass Burrow was at LSU. Dude just threw on some rib protection and got right back out there and played like a soldier.

frick the Bengals for letting him get crippled.

We didn't mean that. We were just trying to inspire him.

At that point in his career he was completing way less than 50% of his passes for about 159 yards per game.

To say that he came a long way is a complete understatement.

at that point I knew he would be awesome. Not as awesome as he was, but breaking records awesome. He had all the intangibles.

I understand that Burrow had almost no time to practice with the first team and the offensive line was dogshit, but how is your response to that going to be putting him under center and running max protect when he's been in OSU's offense for the last two years? Now, to his credit, E really changed things up for the Fiesta Bowl, I know it was a shite opponent but the play designs were so much better

The Defense of the 2018 is insane. All the excuse ignore basic facts

1. The stats aren’t great to begin with and that’s including: 41 points in overtime. Which adds 3.1 PPG. It ignores the fact that we kicked more FG than any other team in the country, and we kicked some LONG zones. Had one of the WORST red zone TD% in the country.

2. The excuse is that Burrow didn’t have time. This ignores the fact that none of the QBs looked good in the spring. In fact they looked so bad we had to go get Burrow. We also didn’t do anything to make him comfortable in the offenseZ we put him under center for the first time since middle school.

3. OL Excuse. After about 4 games we were only missing Brunfield. Once Charles came back we had Charles, Magee, Cush, Lewis, and Deculus for the last 8 games of the season. Which was our 2019 OL.

4. We didn’t improve as the season went on. In November we scored 0 vs Alabama. 24 against Arkansas one of the worst defenses in the country. And 24 in regulation VS A&M

Had to look up the schedule to see, that was the Auburn game? Lol our fans are idiots, you'd think we'd know how tough it is to win in Jordan Hare. I was actually really encouraged after that game that we could find ways to win games like that, especially with the expectations we had going into the season.

I think more people came around after we trounced UGA

I can't agree with this. Rice, Arkansas and A&M weren't good competition, but the playcalling was very different, were using more spread sets and we had struggled with teams as bad or worse than those before Bama. UCF sucked, but the offense was completely revamped before that game, much more hurry up and concepts involving more than two WRs. I think having time for bowl practices made a big differences.

All that said, he blew the first 9 games of the season, we were very luck to be 7-2 at that point

He WAS average. Sure you can point to last year and him becoming our greatest of all time, but that doesn't change his first year here. The only thing we did right was kick field goals which was inspiring considering what we had the year prior to that.

Burrow wasn't a football god when he got here.
