Random thought: We got stuck with Sloan, but wasn’t the plan to hire Tommy Rees?

May not be recalling it right, but after Denbrock decided to take the $ for the gig at ND (Some say supposedly left because BK was going to promote Sloan to CO-OC and he felt disrespected) weren’t we all preparing for Tommy Rees to come lead the offense? Or was he supposed to be CO-OC/TE coach? He got promoted to OC for the Browns and it shut down the talk.

Look, it may not have been pretty either, but Saban also hired him as OC and now he’s in the NFL as OC for the Browns. He has to be doing somewhat decent if he keeps moving on up.

Wonder if BK just had to scramble and got the rug pulled from underneath him and basically had to just promote Sloan and make Hankton CO-OC.

I think it was mainly a “let’s not overhaul which just produced a Heisman QB offense, and cherry on top let’s get Underwood too” decision.

He’ll never admit it, but I think BK would say it was clearly a bad decision in retrospect. LSU should never hire a coordinator with that limited experience coordinating. Hopefully we all - including our HC - learned a lesson. One of the most important football positions in the state cannot ever go to someone with that kind of limited coordinator experience, regardless of the circumstances. You have to have P4 experience at the coordinator position, period… if you don’t yet, go get some and we’ll talk once you do.

Yeah I think everyone was thinking let’s keep the band together and believed Sloan and Hankton could get the job done. Boy was that a mistake.

They dont get all the blame, players have to perform as well but your QB isnt playing great and WRs also have drop issues… direct issues related to the position you coach…

Could anyone imagine if BK would have fired Sloan and we don’t get Underwood. Was it a mistake to promote Sloan yes, but BK would have been hung in effigy. The man can’t win.

I recall Underwood being tied to the hip to Sloan, even publically stating thay Sloan leaving would be a deal breaker.

When Underwood signed with Michigan Sloan should have been cut within the hour.

I guess but we had last year to see that Sloan wasn't going to cut it. If this is the year that BK had marked down as his championship year he really needed to go out and get a real OC.

He did bring in former OC/OL coach Atkins in from Florida State, you have to think his input grows exponentially hopefully

The rant wanted Sloan. BK gave the rant what they wanted.

And if you even suggested that it might be a mistake you were called a negatiger because half of this board had convinced themselves that Sloan would be the next Joe Brady.
