yeah well nick saban and company couldn't even hold a&m down.. with as many great defensive players as they had..

i would think more recent success should matter more than something that happened against old school florida.. also "average" is too harsh either way..

This can be said about every coach. Les Miles, Urban Myres, Nick Saban, Steve Spurier, the list could go on. Take the talented players away and none of them are as success as they are now. You could look at pro coaches as well. Remove key players from a team and they struggle.

Now I've seen it all here.

LSU fans themselves questioning the coaching ability of Chief himself because of some nobody's article and I'm sure the Welter thing as well.

Damn...

The biggest story in all of this is that King actually had the balls to take a stance on something. Dude's so vanilla he's almost impossible to listen to.

Ridiculous.

That isn't saying much. What does he have to show for it?
Even more ridiculous.

USCe has won 11 games each of the last 3 seasons and 42 games total the last 4.

Prior to those 3 seasons, USCe had won 10 games in a season only once in 115 years of existence. And 42 wins the last 4 years is more than Lou Holtz had in 6 seasons AND the last 2 years prior to that COMBINED.

Very impressive stats, for a South Carolina coach.

Now, can somebody tell me SOS's record vs the SECWest, number of SEC title game appearances/results, so on and so forth. You know the measures SEC coaches are ultimately judged by.

Yes, SOS has taken USCe to new heights, but in large part due to Florida being down and UGA being unpredictable year to year. About the biggest compliment I can give SOS is that he has managed to do this with golf and drinking seemingly 1,2 as his priorities nowadays, and I don't mean that as a slam on the ol' ball coach.

True, but Bill King doesn't hold his tongue when talking about his dislike for the arrogant and under-producing blowhard Charlie Weis.

That's pretty much the point. USCe is historically a .500 program.

Yeah, he's pretty boring.

Radio gold was when Paul Finebaum would do his segment with Pat Dye..That was some funny stuff.

And while much improved under SOS, nobody considers them as one of the true SEC power programs still.

At least not in my mind, but who the hell am I to say such a thing?

You'd have to be a lying moron to agree with that let alone say it.

So if Chavis is an average DC, not elite, wins with only top talent, what does that make Smart/Saban?

Also, does Chavis not sign off on this talent that he gets??? Is he not part of the evaluation of these guys? Does he not squeeze out better production from lower ranked players? Is he not innovative in his approach to stopping spread teams? Does that approach not work?

there is a whole lot of space between average and elite. Chavis is either in the elite category or at least significantly better than average. King is trying to strum up the LSU base, we are becoming a good fanbase to rile up, it doesnt take much, and we keep coming back for more.

Damn LSU has done a lot of winning with average coaches, shite we've won more games now then when we had saban, Fisher and muschamp. Les really is a miracle worker for being an average coach with average coordinators. Yeah we have talent, but in any given cycle at least one team in our division out recruits us. Hell one year we had a top 10 class but were like the 7th best class in the sec.

over the last few days I've seen Miles is an average to bad coach, Chavis is a bad coach, our recruiting is average, Cam did that with seniors and NFL players so average, and LSU fans (not many mind you) agree with all of it. Well damn, I never knew you could be that average at everything and still win 10+ games a year, in the toughest conference, in the toughest division.

I mean do we not have 3 of the last six National championship winners on our schedule every single year?

Look at the bright side, we don't have to face SOS and his USCe juggernaut every year.

He said he could never stop Spurrier during his heyday at Florida...Could anyone stop Fla. then except for maybe Fla. St.? King also said that Chavis is made to look better than he is due to the talent at LSU..LSU will always have at least top 15 talent, so I guess Chavis just lucked up, right?

This strikes me as silly and dated criticism. Chavis did one hell of a lot better against Spurrier than any other defensive coach up against him in his heyday - what's more I think they've only been on opposite sidelines 5 times since 1998 (of those matchups the Chavis team won 3 of 5). Also, his logic implies Spurrier is also an average coach since his USC teams have never approached the offensive prowess of his more talented Florida teams.

Another Alabama lover.

You can't listen to a segment without him sucking off Alabama.
