He was solid but definitely not as good as Gaye.
In far fewer snaps Jones had:
More sacks than Gaye; Just as many TFLs, and only 13 less tackles. Gaye was just another player in a long line of players who were massively hyped by the fan base every year but did not have the actual production to warrant it. He looks every bit the part of a dominant DE. Unfortunately, because he was born in another country and did not grow up playing football, he never had any feel for the game to be a great football player.
Gaye had one great game for LSU. The 2020 opener vs. Miss. St. From that point on the narrative was set in the minds of many LSU fans that he was a great DE. He wasn't. Most of the time you forgot he was actually on the field.

And if your interior guys in a House defense are not only doing the dirty work, but are actually making plays behind the line of scrimmage, the entire defense becomes extremely dangerous. It’s gonna put a lot of offenses behind the chains early in drives, which should lead to both a lot of 3 and outs and turnovers.
by protecting the secondary until they hopefully become a proven commodity

With Wingo and Smith inside, and Perkins rushing too, Jones is going to have 1v1 opps he can win and impact the game. Our pass rush should be relentless this season, relentless.

I stand corrected they did bring Paris Shand from Arizona.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Wiggins can do. He was really raw coming in but looks the part. Hoping he plays like the freak of nature he looks like.

I think he can be a set the edge run stopper and a third down pass rusher.

It's just hard for me to judge him because I haven't seen him yet and he's coming off surgery, great talent for sure but gotta see how healthy he is.

Yep. I think it is unfair for fans to expect Smith to be the game-wrecker most think he can be right out of the gate after a serious injury. Is a 75% Smith more athletic than most DTs? sure. But no one should be angry if he isn't dominant in the first month or so of the season. Best case reasonable scenario? His presence inside deflects more attention away from Wingo who has FAR outplayed any reasonable expectations of him.

DE is the position I'm most concerned about. With a lot of talent, but unproven secondary, we need the DEs to get pressure. I know we will be blitzing from the LBs and secondary some, but we need some pressure on passing downs from the DEs when we rush 4.

Jones was better than Gaye last season. Wiggins looks the part. But he is probably still too raw to be a starter just yet. That's why LSU brought in some veteran transfers at DE
This is 100 percent accurate yet gets more downvotes than not

Dude, the stats prove he was better than Gaye
It’s a reason Gaye went undrafted

Mason smith on interview straight up said he calls quency Wiggins a freak of a human being.
MAASON SMITH, freak of all freaks at LSU, thinks Wiggins is a freak.
Would love to see Wiggins play to his potential. I believe he didn't even start playing football until 10th or 11th grade. He's ungodly levels of raw talent that just hasn't developed the skill yet.

I'm high on both of them. Think they can both do big things this year, especially Jones.

Don’t sleep on Womack.
Insiders are saying word around the team is he’s another athletic beast like Harold Perkins. We can only hope that’s true.
