Maybe one of you young whippersnappers can help me out.

I have been reading a lot of the chatter here that this team reminds a lot of people of the 2011 season. Prior to the 2011 season, no one was calling for LSU to go undefeated, but they did.

My question is, with this added hindsight, knowing how the 2011 team did, why are posters getting upset with fans posting the bar so high?

Matt Moscona said on the radio yesterday that fans should be happy with 10-2, but I disagree. If this team has all the talent of the 2011 team, and I think they definitely do, then saying 10-2 is ok directly contradicts that.

Personally I think LSU wins every game they are favored, and gives Bama a run for their money. What do y’all think?

11-1 and a playoff birth is what I'll be OK with.

Because going undefeated or winning every game you are favored in is a lot harder when the product you are putting on the field is determined by the mentality of 18-21 year old boys. That’s why college football is fun.

no it doesn't bc the competition is far greater now. We have to be better than then. Nobody was as loaded then as bama and clemson and hopefully us now.

If LSU goes 11-1 and Bama beats an undefeated UGA in the SEC CG, does 11-1 lsu or 12-1 UGA get the 4 seed?

2011 Bama would beat 2019 Bama 44-16.

Moscona is arrogant. I stopped listening to him years ago.

My opinion has nothing to do with his prediction of going 10-2.

Certain posters demand optimism, but will throw a fit as soon as someone says something like “11-1, no excuses”. Essentially you’re supposed to be positive and optimistic without setting any actual standards. Gotta be able to wiggle out

Awesome user name.

I think 10-2 would be disappointing THIS year.
Not failure, but disappointing.

I think it has more to do with the strength of the rest of the SEC this year. In 2011 Auburn and Florida were average, Moo State was mediocre, and Ole Miss was even worse than they are this year. We only really had to get through Bama and Arky while the rest of the SEC schedule was pretty weak. This year everyone in the SEC is improved from last year with the exception of Moo State. But they are still more talented than what they were in 2011.

We have a tough stretch of games in back to back to back weeks against Florida, State, and Auburn. I'd say it's fair to assume we may drop one of those. We Drop one to Bama. And we also have to get through Texas and a new grittier A&M.

I'm thinking 10-2 is reasonable.

2011 defense was better. This will be magnified by style of play. The way Miles wanted to play, especially when he had Wing, was a huge favor to the defense.

2019 Offense will be better IMO even if the oline isn't as good.

While the 2011 schedule was no cake walk I think the 2019 slate is slightly tougher on paper. That could flip either way.

Anything short of a 10-2 regular season would unquestionably be a major failure

They get upset because they’re afraid of disappointment. Don’t want to set the bar high so their little feelings wont be crushed if we don’t go undefeated

People forget that O is installing a new offense. There will be some disfunctionality on that side of the ball especially early in the season. Don’t expect perfection.

I’m not sold on that. Florida has a terrible offseason, Auburn replaces a ton on offense, and State and A&M replace a ton on defense. The SEC west is good but not the feared division it once was. Ole miss Arkansas and Miss State will all be double digit wins.

Fans can’t seem to make their minds up on Texas. On the one hand we got fans saying this will be a tough game against a good team and on the other hand we got fans saying Herman is a joke of a coach and his roster is made up of overrated players. I read one guy who called betting on LSU “the easiest bet of the year.”

Fehoko, Lawrence, Divinity, Phillips, Chaisson, Fulton, Stevens, Delpit, and Stingley were all ranked as a 5 star by at least one recruiting service.

Not sure 2011 defense could boast that.

Recruiting rankings don’t represent college talent. Would you say any of those players are better than Honey Badger?

If we go 11-2 over all for the season, I will be very good with it, but if we go 10-2 regular season and lose the bowl game to go 10-3 overall for the season I will not be happy with it. If we go 11-1 regular season and lose the bowl game to go 11-2 overall, I will be good with it as well.

So for me however we get to 11-2 will put me in a good state of mind but I suppose ending on a high note by winning the bowl game will make me feel better than ending on a low note by losing the bowl game to go 11-2 overall. It will still be one of the all time great seasons for LSU but will leave a bad taste all off season.
