1- Wade’s downfall at LSU was unfortunate. Arguments that he was rightfully fired and that LSU should have stuck with him both have merit. 2- McMahon was a coach who had interest from other schools. Namely, he was South Carolina’s first choice. He had a good resume, and was not considered a bad hire. 3- Wade rehabbed his career in a big way at McNeese and scored a job at a school that is not LSU. He never is nor was he ever going to return to LSU. The Wade book is closed, we should leave it on the shelf. 4- McMahon has proven to be a bad hire. He’s recruited better than I thought he would early on, but he’s developed no one and his in-game coaching has produced losing basketball. A 14-45(?) SEC record speaks for itself. 5- Woodward should have cut his losses and moved on from McMahon. For whatever reason he decided to keep McMahon it puts LSU in a lame duck season and only delays the inevitable. There is little chance that McMahon turns this around. The overwhelming likelihood is that we’ll be starting from scratch next year at this time, a year later than we should have. The NIL stuff is great, but we’re only going up to the level everyone else has been. Still others are ahead. Most kids are going to choose to play at a school they’ve seen play in the tournament, where they have a reasonable belief they can play for a championship. That’s not LSU currently. The End
Thank you for bringing the only sane basketball analysis I’ve seen on this board in months.

So why did Dedon Thomas come here instead of KY and FL?

I was told, with anger and insults that no good player would come. I countered that players can be bought, and I was again harangued and told LSU didn't have money that was a cheap lie and even if they did nobody would come play for mcdildo.

You are so right.
Thomas was the piece we were missing.

I like your optimism more than your sarcasm, friend.
being average right now in the SEC means a lot. ole miss and missouri and Ms state were at that level and it was pretty good. all are good tournament teams with sweet 16 potential.

Strange thing I see is that everybody assumes CMM can’t coach. He’s been coaching with his hands tied for 3 years from a NIL perspective. Mizzou went 0-18 in SEC last season and was a 6 seed in NCAA this year as they spent more and have a good coach who can win with comparable talent. This will be first year that CMM will have that set of circumstances - is it okay to watch, cheer and hope for the best? Seems reasonable to me…

it does seem reasonable. it appeared to me that McMahon was losing due to lesser talent. guys cant shoot or rebound.
folks here say I am a stupid sack of shite for thinking that because according to them its coaching. I think it is difficult to know that for sure. it could be true, but I dunno that I take all these local yokels word for it because they "know the game, hoss".
university and media comes along and says that McMahon has been playing with less NIL money, which seems possible to me. local outrage brigade immediately declared this was impossible and that they are so smart at coaching analysis and know all the insider info on player performance and motivation and team dynamics and everything is definitely McMahon's fault.
I say its perfectly possible that with more money and talent, McMahon is a winner.
I think the angry responses to this come from people you like to use basketball as a way to signal sophistication about their own analytical skills with regard to coaches. but I don't think they know shite.

They do that because their mind has been made up since Will Wade was fired.

yes and I don't see why liking wade makes people anti-mcmahon. I am literally the biggest wade fan to ever live. I wear mcneese clothes (since replaced with NC state), go to their games, listen to hours and hours of wade talking, correctly predicted his move to NC state, repeat his quotes and aphorisms (chance favors the aggressor! never doubt the well prepared!) all the time and believe his is the best active coach in any sport.
would prefer wade was still here, but McMahon seems smart and I think he can win with good players.
I fear McMahon might not be a savage recruiter like wade. but if you have money, not sure if it matters. I think mcmahon might recruit players with less attitude than wade does. and that can work, maybe.

Assumes????
Where have you been the last 3 years? I dont have to assume anything, just look at his record.

4th ranked recruiting class in the sec.
I believe it was the 12th ranked portal class last year overall.

Just consider who you’re arguing with. Last week when Kam Williams signed with Kentucky, to a man the mcmen said “you can’t expect us to recruit with Kentucky no matter how much money we have”. Then when Thomas signed to a man they all said “we were told that we couldn’t sign players Kentucky wanted” pretending that their own narrative was created by people they disagreed with. The mcmen are totally dishonest and hypocritical, they’ve used this same double talk every year MM has been the coach.

Didn't you tell us that the increase in NIL was a lie?
Posted on 4/1/25 at 5:48 pm to mmcgrath
No, I said the numbers he gave was a lie and I provided the information confirming it (3 separate sources) but you already know that.

so you didn't say this?

Don’t kid yourself, the “increased NIL” story was always BS, just consider the source.
