People have brought up if Mainieri retires/gets fired, the first guy on the list would be Dan McDonnell, which obviously makes sense since he's the Louisville coach and they've been a beast the past several years.

My question is some of yall said he'd have serious interest in us if Mainieri is gone, my question is why? Did he coach here or is he a local guy? Just curious because I don't know anything other than he coaches Louisville and they've been elite for a while.

He was assistant under bianco at ole miss before Louisville
I think he will be a tough pull

Godwin more realistic

LSU baseball can pull just about anyone. Woodward could get it done.

I made a post in 2019, while in louisville for work, was listening to his coaches show. It was when the postseasons pairings came out & I think maybe LSU was destined to play louisville either in the supers or the CWS if it came to that.

A reporter asked him about LSU He started gushing about LSU being the gold standard, what he aspires louisville to be, the crowd they are able to draw, etc. in such a way that it screamed to me that he was saying “damn I’d love to coach there”

I’ve repeated it prob a dozen times but this is the first time I’ve actually heard people repeat it. Pretty sure that’s where it comes from

That dude will craw through a mile of broken glass on his hands and knees to get here.

Why should we settle for Vitello? We can get someone who is more proven than him. Or we can get someone who has a higher ceiling than Vitello. That’d be like us wanting Mark Stoops to be our football coach. We can hire better than that.

Tell us what you know about Vitello’s ceiling.

Vitello would be on a very short list. Elite recruiter, players play for him, has a tireless work ethic.

The interest on McDonnells part started in 1990.

He played at The Citadel when we played them in the CWS that year.

He was completely taken with the passion of our fans. As others have noted he later went on to coach as an assistant at ole miss so he saw it up close there too.

He knows what this program can be.

No complaints about McDonnell
I don’t think Tadlock leaves TX Tech
Scott Brown has done nothing to warrant a call from LSU
LSU can do better than Jake Gautreau
Does Derek Johnson have any interest in the college level?

Godwin is at his Alma Mater in East Carolina I'm a good conference. LSU obviously would offer more money and prestige plus he has been an assistant at LSU and Ole Miss and I think maybe one other SEC team. I would be elated to get him.

I would be willing to take a chance on Jake Gautreau plus he and Cannizzaro are former teammates and boy would it be great to get Andy back at LSU if he was part of Gautreaus staff

The last time this program had energy was when Cannizzaro was on the staff

Don't want AC as HC but would love to see what he could do at the plate with all the young talent coming back.

I don't know all that much about Vitello. Was he successful somewhere else before he got to Tennessee? I really don't know his history.
