I lived on campus as a freshman and I would recommend every student do so. Makes everything about transitioning to college life easier.

Had a blast too.

I’m sure if you live in one of the surrounding parishes in Baton Rouge then she won’t have to live on campus. If you aren’t in one of the surrounding parishes then they usually require you to live on campus as a freshman. Not sure if that’s the case at LSU, because I didn’t go there, but at most universities that’s how things go. There are always ways to get out of living on campus btw

Send her to Herget Hall. A great experience that I would never want to re-live.

You’re not wrong. Hopefully she has a good time at LSU. I’m excited.

Kids need to stay on campus for 1-2 years at least. It is part of their development

Assuming the parents can afford it, I agree with this. Living at home is like just continuing high school.

This must have changed in the past 20 years. When I was a freshman, I lived off campus although looking back probably should have lived on campus for a year.

You seem to have a good sense of humor and obviously never had kids so not gonna get riled up, but I would destroy you! You have no clue what a parent will do to protect their child and your parents should have taught you to have more respect. Hopefully, that'll come in time!

Yo what... I was just messing around. I was raised right and have respect for everyone no matter who they are or what they do. I mean look at this thread everyone else is messing with you. I’m not some 5’4 midget bruh who can’t put up a fight. I also understand what a parent would do for their kid, I’ve seen it before. I’m not sure how you came to this over my comment. I specifically said hope she has a great time I’m looking forward to it. You’re acting like I’ve posted insults directed towards your daughter. I’m sure she’s a great person. Relax.

Requiring on-campus housing is a money grab nothing more (not just by LSU but by all universities that require it). If there was ever any doubt, just look what the penalty is for not living on campus. They bill you for rent anyway.

quote:

Failure to Comply
Students who fail to comply with the housing expectation and/or who provide false or misleading information in connection with a request for exemption could be subject to the posting of the lowest published room rental charges for the term of enrollment to the student’s account for each semester in which the student does not comply, and/or subject to the student accountability process, which could include referral to the Dean of Students office.

All good! Thought you were being sarcastic about that. I don't appreciate any of the immature comments, but should have known better! I swear, I can never ask something on hear without the idiots chiming in. Guess i'm the dumb one for expecting anything different.

I’m not going to say you are completely wrong, b/c money does play a part in the policy. However, it is probably not for the reasons you are thinking it is for.

One of the things that most universities struggle with is retention rates. This is where schools get impacted financially. Your greatest loss of students is from year 1 to 2. That’s a significant loss in tuition and fee revenue, plus retention and on time graduation rates can also impact federal funding and rankings.

With all of that said, there is a lot of research out there that says students who live on campus for their first year of school are more likely to do better academically and to continue to matriculate throughout their 4 years of college at the same university.

So that is the bigger reason for the policy decision to have freshmen live on campus.

Even though I lived on campus my freshman year, the rule that you HAVE to do that is pretty dumb
