My first game I watched was when Cholly Mac was coach in the late 70’s. Then when Stovall was appointed after Rein’s plane crash they went to purple. It was an NCAA rule and I remember the actual Boomers (like my parents) went nuts.

We had some rough losses in the old purple, but we had some glorious wins as well. Truth is I prefer the uniform with purple shirts like what we had last Saturday, but I am old and it’s just nostalgic for me to watch them in that color combo.

But hey - just win and they can wear pink tutus if they want. Just win.

I just wish they would go back to the full shoulder stripes. That damn half stripe looks stupid.

A lot of us who watched the Tigers through much of the 80’s and 90’s when they were forced to wear purple at home have a hard time wanting to see too much of it…but I like the couple of games they wear it as a change of pace. I really love the white-purple-white combo.

I always liked them too. White is a tradition that we won't go away from, but I'm glad we wear the purple at least once a year.

Lots of people have bad associations re purple jerseys and the bleak era of Archer's last two years and then Hallman. My years of going to games in high school & college were Stovall, Arnsparger, and then Archer's first two years. We had a couple of bad years with Jerry, but had some good winning seasons in that stretch too. So purple is a little nostalgic for me I guess.

I definitely think our traditional white should be our uniform we wear for big games.

That being said I'd like to see the white/purple/white for an SEC game a year or two.

Does the "purple jersey" group not realize that LSU's Gold Helmet/white jersey is known as one of, if not THE best uniforms in college football?

throw me in on the purple jersey train. They are beautiful and we should wear them more. I get tradition. I just dont like the tradition is that we dont wear them because we play bad in them. I feel like we are past that as a program. And are elite no matter what jersey we wear.

I'm a millenial and I think we should dress like LSU. Which is G/W/G. That's our look. Would be dumb to abandon it because purple looks good suddenly.

Exactly-and it used to be big news when the rare opponent forced us to wear purple on the road when they picked white.

I LOVE the traditions at LSU. Very few schools have any of these, and we are probably the only one with all of them.

White jerseys at home.

Field marked every 5 yards.

U-shaped goal posts.

Would play every home game at night if we could.

I just don't think we should screw with the uniqueness we have in Baton Rouge.

Bingo. Each tradition on its own is sort of easy for people to let be chipped away at. But when you add them all up it makes a difference. College football is losing a lot of its traditions and its fan base/interest. It may seem silly but things like traditional jersey combos matter.

Why do you people insist on changing what is the greatest uniform in all of football?

Purple looks great; but the gold hats, white jerseys, and gold pants is by far the best combination of all time.

I don’t get that, purple jerseys was the tradition. That is how it should be

Look, I’m Team Purple Jerseys, but you need a history lesson. The only reason LSU wore purple at home from 1983 to 1994 was because the NCAA declared teams could not wear white jerseys at home. Gerry DiNardo petitioned the NCAA, won his argument (with a caveat that allowed butthurt Vandy to wear white at LSU in ‘96) and that’s how we are where are.

LSU started wearing white at home under Paul Dietzel and won a national championship in the process. Doesn’t means that had anything to do with it, but that tradition is much older than the “purple jersey tradition” you mentioned.

I think we should wear purple at home because those jerseys look better, and I hate when teams wear white at home (mainly because it strikes me as a Dallas Cowboys thing, and I hate the Cowboys). I’m also not a fan of letting other teams wear their colors in my stadium. But going back to purple would not be because of “tradition.”

No. We need one helmet and one pair of pants. And those are gold (yellow).

The purple jerseys and white pants and helmet are legit.

The purple jerseys with gold pants and helmet are laughably bad and look like some Walmart JV SWAC bullshite
