the reality of the negativity right now is that Bama is on the rise and the fear that lsu is going to fall to a mid tear sec team. It has nothing to do with Usc.

the bama love is only a symptom of the deeper problem.

LSU fans feel inferior. always have. yes, even when the GREAT saban was here.

ive been around it my whole life.

This. Saban took a program in LSU that was sometimes good, sometimes not. Overall a pretty good program historically (probably around 15 or so I would guess before Saban) and turned them into an elite program for a few years.

I think Miles is a pretty decent coach and did a pretty good job of maintaining what Saban had built for several years. But, most of the credit goes to Saban after seeing what he has done at Bama (hate to say it, since I can't stand Saban). I think LSU fans are adjusting to that reality now.

I think LSU will remain a good team in the West, but the days of elite status are slipping away (probably already gone) and it is going to be LSU and AU chasing Bama for the next few years. Honestly, I think in a couple of years AU will be the bigger threat to Bama. We know what we are up against better than anyone (we see it 365 in our face) and we will be forced to get to that level and we will.

In terms of how the 2003 championship molded the psyche of the LSU fan base, I believe this:

Because it had been so long between championships at LSU, average fans looked at Saban's mentality and disposition along with his all out defensive blitzing as a sort of blue print for how his successors should act and do things on the field. Once the fans realized Miles had a different personality and ran a zone defense, for example, he was in trouble with our fans. He did not follow the blue print for how our coach should conduct himself. All this was before clock mismanagement, suspect offensive playcalling etc. occurred. what is interesting is that while our fans (negatigers as you refer to them) were complaining that Miles isn't the right coach because he doesn't possess Saban's fiery deameanor, Texas, USC and OSU were playing for the crystal ball with coaches whose in game dispositions and zone defenses are similar to Miles.

where do ya'll get this elite crap from....

8-4
10-3
8-5
13-1
9-3

Saban did some great things here, but people have greatly romanticized those years.

Agreed. In essence, Miles has been asked to uphold a standard that really didn't exist.

Our negativity springs from the fact that we are in Louisiana.

It's clear that these national championship teams are not 55-0 dominators in big games . . . in fact that's supremely rare.

I think our negativity springs from, not a desire to have Saban back, but a secret Tiger desire to be like USC 2003 . . . to have the appearance of dominating. To win every game by a margin of 30 at least and to score nearly 50. The tiger fans that want to run Les Miles out are those that deep down believe (though they would never admit it, and it is so deep that all judgment of success is based on that team) USC deserved the 2003 title . . . if not that then they are those that believe only in the appearance of domination (which is unreal when it comes down to it.)

OR it could be that they want to beat teams 55-0 because that has happened to us (I don't remember this happening to us, but maybe it feels like it sometimes). Either way it's an unreal expectation of any football team in a good conference.

Maybe the negatiger (I hate the title, but is a real entity nonetheless) is actually a closet USC fan itching for a reason to leave. Searching for and compiling any and all problems so that they have a sufficient reason to defect.

I have read some idiotic drivel on this site...But this has to be the most asinine of them all...Take your bs, and go somehwere else with it

Terrible... just terrible

You have no idea what you are talking about. Nobody in Baton Rouge thinks that the 2003 Trojans deserved ANYTHING that year. They played, what, two ranked teams that year including beating an average-at-best Michigan team.

The Tigers ran through 5 of them and beat "the best team in college football history Oklahoma"

The "negatiger" that you are referring to is simply TIRED of inexplicable play calling, terrible clock management, and top recruiting classes that never live up to expectations for whatever reason. Weather its lack of discipline or just lack of development.

I have ALWAYS hated the play calling under Miles. Even in 2007 I nearly had an aneurysm when he threw the ball with 3 seconds left in the Auburn game when a field goal would have won.

Regardless of whether it worked or not, it was a bad decision. I don't have enough gigs of ram to save a list of the stupid decisions and mistakes made by Miles in his tenure at LSU.

I love the guy, don't get me wrong. Great for publicity and great at recruiting, but he isn't a reliable HC.

It slips away from everyone...Ga, Tenn, Fla. St, Michigan, USC, ND, Okla., Neb and on and on. Thing is, we are playing Penn St (maybe) on New Years Day (maybe) for a chance to end the season in the top 10, have our 4th 10 game winning season in the last 5 yrs, have our 4th top 10 ranking in 5 yrs, and go 5-0 in bowl games.

That's not exactly production worthy of the sky is falling and life as we know it is bout to end BS.......but each to our own.

Again, I have no problem with pointing out areas for improvement; it's the inexplicable disgust for a coach who has won us a NC, is unbeaten in the bowl season, has a remarkable moral sense (who cares if that bores you), and laid himself on the line for our team.

All coaches make blunders, it happens.

The negativity was born out of some ungodly standard. Some say its Bama or Saban but these don't explain it for me. If it were Bama or Saban we would rally behind the Tigers and against the Tide even more (which does happen often) . . . instead it's headhunting and witch-hunting, all signs that there is some standard that dominates the Tiger psyche.

We haven't earned the right to fire a NC winning head coach . . . hopefully we never will.

The majority voice on the rant says: act like you're USC (2003) or else we'll wish Saban was back. What a f-ed up ultimatum.

Where are you getting this nonsense? The Trojans in 2003 were INFERIOR. They won a paper NC and ESPN was on their jock. Outside of L.A. and Kirk Herbstreit, I don't think anyone believed USC was half as good as the 2003 National Champion LSU Fighting Tigers.

They can keep the piece of paper that says the AP poll voters bought into Hollywood Pete's lobbying. I like how our crystal ball glimmers.

You see it's statement like this. You show a desire to keep track of every little mistake that Miles makes. Where does that desire come from? Why on earth would you want to do that . . . when Miles has won us a NC, a Sugar Bowl, s undefeated in bowls, has pledged himself to LSU. I just don't get it.

You're right Herbstriet is middling at best, but why are you treating Miles the same way he treated LSU after our NC in 2003?

This. It has nothing at all to do with USC. The Toejam fans are just sunshine soldiers anyway. They don't watch their team unless they are undefeated or competing for a NC.

Fact is, at least with me, Bama has become all that I miss about Nick Sabans Tigers. Intensity, smart aggressive defense, discipline, good decision making, and players who have exhausted their potential because they give it ALL 100% EVERY SINGLE GAME. That's a Nick Saban team through and through.
