Nice 247 article recognizing Delpit, Chaisson, and Fulton. Entire DEF has the potential to be better than the 2018 unit. We have returning play-makers (with depth) at every level - DL, LB and DB; and of course the mad scientist D.A. setting the pace.

Defense is so stacked it’s ridiculous. This isn’t even mentioning Jacob Philips who is up there imo, Stevens who can have a monster season, and Derek Stingley is one of the most talented players in all of CFB, just very young. I haven’t felt this confident about a team overall probably since I’ve religioulsy started keeping up with football since the 2011 season or so.

I don’t know how they can rank chaisson that high but I’m damn excited to see all our LB’s play. You have divinity, queen, Phillips, chaisson, and Stevens. Jesus Christ that’s some athletic sons of bitches

Chaisson being that high is a bit silly. Certainly he seems to have immense potential, and it's tough luck that he was injured early last year, but right now he has very little actual production to justify such hype the crazy hype. You could argue Derrick Stingley should be ranked just as high simply based on potential.

COULD he be one of the best 25 defensive players? Absolutely.

Can you say that for sure right now? No way

We have that potential most years. Just need a competent offense

The defense will be absolutely filthy.

However, I'd bet we won't be top 10 in a lot of yds/per/game categories or even pts/per/game because of the new offense we'll be trotting out there.

We'll have a great defense, but they'll have to be on the field a little longer if we truly do a hurry-up, RPO, quick pass, kind of offense.

Depends if it's dink and dunk or quick strike.

Hell no.

I'm just saying our rantards are going to freak out that the stats don't show us as a top 3 defense, but there will be reasons for that. True quick-tempo, RPO offenses give their defenses less rest. Even when the Saints have a solid defense, they won't be elite in the scoring/yards stats because Drew scores too quickly and they have to go back out on the field.

I'd rather a top 15 defense and a top 20 offense than a top 3 defense and a top 85 offense

Sure, no question. And I'm just thinking out loud here, we really don't know what the offense will look like.

I think you can slow the pace down, shorter throws, and let the play clock run, to give your defense a breather, when they need.

Ideally, we could have the all the passing, and wide out sets, and still be able to hunker down, and play a little ball control when needed.

Ground and pound ain't leaving the playbook. We'll sit on the run plenty this year with leads.

And I'm ok with that sometimes.

With his measurables, maturity and football IQ, I think Stingley will be recognized as one of the best defenders in CFB as a true FR. He's that good.
