I know this team has been talked about ad nauseam in the last 24 hours, but I feel like the real problem with this team is the players who were supposed to be good - are not very good.

The preseason roster looked pretty good because we thought guys would be better.

Juice Hill was a huge pickup at the time, but he isn’t making any difference on the floor at all.
Adam Miller was supposed to be our best player and he’s nothing special esp on defense
Mwani Wilkinson started almost every game last season and had developed a nice corner shot, barely sees the floor now
KJ Williams is good offensively but seems to be a terrible rebounder

The two top 60 ranked freshmen - Ward and Reed - are not nearly far along enough as a top 60 recruit should be. Usually guys rated in that area make at least small impacts in year 1.

The rest of the guys - Fountain, Hannibal, Hayes - were role players on their previous teams, and although all 3 have shown flashes they are still role players.

Since our preseason “stars” havent panned out we’re pretty much working with a team full of role players. No one other than KJ can get going offensively so here we are scoring 60ppg. We will need a bunch of new players next season

Miller is a great player and Wilkinson was a 40% 3pt shooter.

This is about defense and rebounding. They are soft on defense.

Miller hasnt been good since early season and Wilkinson even when healthy barely plays.. not sure your point here.

Outside KJ, this team is minimally talented. Mac is going to have to do what Kelly did.... hit the portal.

Is that going to happen?

I get your take though.

If Miller and Wilkinson were valuable players last season, what happened? Is it the other players or a difference in coaching.

miller was touted to be a great player. nobody's eyes have seen that yet. wilkenson cant dribble a basketball, cant penetrate. all he can do is wait at the 3 point line for an open look. he wont get that unless there are guards that can penetrate and draw defenders. and guess what, we dont have any of those. so yeah, the op was right on.

Well Gus, Miller didnt play last year

I can give him a bit of a pass bc he’s coming off ACL. But he needs to be a teams 4th or 5th best player. Not 1st or 2nd

But the Rant said he was an elite scorer and LSU would’ve been a final four team with him last year.

A healthy Miller on last year’s team could have been deadly - bc like I said, he needs to be a 4th or 5th best player which is where he would have been last year

One of the main problems is the two pgs he brought with him aren't very good, like you mentioned. Juice has been one of the worse players in LSU history on the court and Hannibal Is a very much off the bench guy.

Apparently mwani has been hurt so that's the only reason why I can think he doesn't start.

And Miller is coming off an acl surgery so I definitely think that is at play when he comes to his performance and inconsistencies.

Fountain and hayes have been nice additions which makes me think tPortal could be our friend going forward.

Concerned about the development of reed and ward next year will be a big tell with them because if not we are cooked next year as well (at this point).

The goals for next season should be a solid big to replace KJ, a new PG that can actually improve the players around him, and hopefully get Miller strong enough to develop some consistency. If we can get any improvement from Ward/reed/Phillips that would be extremely nice.

This is correct. You don’t need exceptional talent to be good on defense and rebound. It’s about the effort and desire to be good defensively and rebound. Many teams who have deficiencies on offense can usually win games by excelling defensively. Players need to step up and start holding each other accountable for doing those little things defensively to win games.

Building this team, under Mac, will take some time. I believe he was a good choice and will eventually get this program where it needs to be. He just needs time. Fans shouldn’t turn on him in year 1. He did what he needed to do to try and make this team competitive.

Can’t shoot, can’t rebound or play defense.
Other than that , I’d say they are pretty good.
