The basketball team was in far worse shape than Football. I don’t know that they had one D-1 player. Football had 39 scholarship players and at least 30 walkon players. They also had 14 quality freshmen scholarship coming. This wasn’t good compared to other schools but meant that they only had to replace about 30+% of the roster. I believe basket ball had to replace about 100% of their roster.

He will never sniff year 5. If you can’t tell this guy is out of his league you don’t know what you’re looking at. Forget your misconceptions about “talent” his team is fundamentally awful in every way and he makes zero adjustments during games, especially on the offensive end. He makes Dale Brown’s Xs and Os look like John Wooden. Look at Mike White for example, a mediocre coach who failed at Florida and is now at UGA. He has far less talent than us, inherited a 6-26 team that was 1-17 in the conf yet is 4-2 in the SEC year 1. He doesn’t run any cutting edge stuff schematically but his teams are sound and tough. McMahon isn’t even on Mike White’s level, just think about that.

Nope contract was for 5 for that exact reason. There was always going to be a recovery period. CMM figured year 3 will tell the tale.

The attendance and revenue generation will be too low to keep him all 5 seasons. They didn’t want to fire Johnny Jones I can promise you the “basketball gate keepers” fought for him until the end but you can’t justify losing money on one of the only programs that generates revenue.

Name one big time coach that would go to a school facing what THE GENERAl left LSU’s basketball program in, much less big time recruits.

Has the basketball team been a national powerhouse, winning the 2nd most national titles, since the turn of the century?

His contract is set up to where they won’t even think about it until year 4 and probably would be 5 before it’s realistic.
Proves again, Basketball at LSU is only important to the fans.
