Pretty tired of the narrative regarding the lack of DL transfers

Kelly has spoken about this at length. And I agree with him. Both of those “big” guys we were supposedly targeting wanted huge paydays for it. Kelly straight up said he’s not paying a million bucks per player in the portal who weren’t anything special at their previous schools.
Idiots in the podcast-sphere and elsewhere just say “they need DL players and didn’t go get them.” Which is true, to a certain extent. But what they fail to follow up with is the reasoning given by Kelly regarding that topic. Which I think is pretty sound all things considered.
Now, do I expect the defense to be world-beaters this year? Certainly not. They’ll be better. It’s frankly hard to be any worse than we were. But the old trope about not going after guys in the portal is false and tired.

At some point though, we're going to have to pony up and pay market value and not BK's value

They weren’t good enough to demand that value. There’s plenty of film out there on those guys that made Kelly say, “we’re not paying a million bucks per player for these guys.”

While I can agree with your narrative, from a general sense, it needs work my guy.

Sadly, this is what journalism has become. There's no integrity left in the profession and everyone has tik-tok brain and no longer cares past reading/listening a few sentences after the headline; if even that.

I don’t care if we missed out on some of the big names. I thought we hit the jackpot with Denver Harris last year & that didn’t workout.
We are young, but I like where we are at with McKinley & Breaux with Bo Davis coaching them up. I think Jacobian Guillory will be really good too

Absolutely not, he’s already got the recruits coming. At some point soon, we won’t be dependent on the portal at all

Apparently they were good enough because they got what they were asking for from other schools. They were correct about their market value. The market value of something is what the someone is willing to pay for it.

I’m talking about the defensive performance as a whole.
I think it’ll be better. But that’s mainly by reasoning of they can’t be worse.

Ok, I’m not really concerned with what other schools are willing to pay for a couple mediocre players.

I’m asking you why you think they will be better. We have better coaching but worse personnel. You can’t just say “they can’t be worse” because they can.

Interpreted another way, “I’m not willing to spend the money needed to dig myself out of the hole I’m in”.
That very well may be the right decision long term. But it doesn’t mean that the short term consequences don’t exist and doesn’t mean those consequences are severely negative.
You need to come to terms with the possibility that the DT position could be a relative disaster this year. If you understand that and still think Kelly made the right decision; then that’s fair.
Unfortunately, a lot of people prefer to lie to themselves about reality.

I forgot which one but the stats were no different than Jalen Lee. I mean I hope Lee makes the next step but no way in hell is Lee worth 1 mill.

If they don't get hurt they will be better than 2023 Wingo and if they actually play more than 10-15 snaps per game then they will be better than Jefferson. (its criminal how little Jefferson played.)
BUT
I think he was saying the defense as a whole will be better, not the individual players. A bunch of average players coached by Bo Davis in a sound, creative scheme will produce better results than better players stuck in confusion last year.
