I don't know that there were a lot of UF fans here in the 90s but I do know I was here. Still am. UF dominated LSU in football when I grew up. Therefore I became, have been, and still am a UF fan. I go to at least 2 games a year. Went to 4 games during the 4-8 season.

LSU has become elite since hiring Saban and Les kept it rolling. Doesn't make me want to root for LSU any more though.

Regional support of a team is lost on me. Especially if it's not your alma mater. You can root for whoever the hell u want to.

Just look at pro sports. Name your favorite basketball and baseball team.

Most of these "diehard" Saints season ticket holders were Cowboys fans during the 90s. Now there's a waitlist for season tickets lol.

My dad roots for Bama because he became a fan of Saban after he made LSU an elite football program. You can hate the guy's personality and whatnot but some folks actually like the he demands excellence and doesn't take alot of crap.

That is nothing new. When I was in high school in BR there were LSU fans and then a hodge-podge of Miami, Nebraska and FSU fans because those were the hot teams then. There's always going to be that contingent of people that don't want to assimilate with the majority. It's not a Bama-specific thing.

Used to be a lot of FSU & Miami fans back in the 80's here.

if you start your fandom in the 90s and you're born in the 80s.That would make you a lifelong fan. Regardless of the team.

A friend's husband is a fan of Bama, Duke, the Yankees, Lakers, and the Cowboys. When he talks sports, I want to choke him.

At least it's okay to pull for the Yankees since they were popular in this state for years.

Do you remember in the late 80s and early 90s there were tons of FSU and Miami fans in Louisiana?

Typically its going to be fans that don't associate with LSU and the team they really support never competes for anything of substance.

Basically ULL fans.

I was at the Auburn/Ole Miss game this weekend and randomly got into a conversation with this guy who goes to Auburn, but claims to be a Bama fan. He was wearing Auburn gear, but said when they play Bama he wears crimson and cheers for the Tide. He had no connection to Bama at all. I hate Auburn, but I still wanted to yell at the guy.

Straight from the article-
Heck, we're not even talking about people from Louisiana who somehow became Gator fans when they were young.

So I'm in the clear

Here's a contradiction from the article

quote:

You can admire Saban as the brilliant coach that he is and appreciate the wonders he worked at LSU. Anyone who doesn't think he's one of the two or three best ever to walk the collegiate sideline in the modern era simply isn't being objective. But to say you're from Louisiana and root for Alabama over LSU because Saban coaches the Tide?

Why can't anyone, "my loser dad" included, be from Louisiana AND also agree with the bold text.

It's LSU fans sense of entitlement that perhaps make them think the random Louisiana Tide fans only come out during LSU week (which is what his article suggests).

Maybe if he talked to some of them, he may find out that they plan their weekends around Bama games and TV broadcasts every week just like the LSU fan does.

I mean such horseshite. You can admire Saban and what he did, but you can't root for him vs LSU? The point is they probably root for Saban regardless of who he's playing, LSU jsut happens to be next on the schedule and you're still butthurt over his departure a decade ago. That's the only logical reason you would care that someone from Louisiana is rooting for Bama over LSU.

FROM 1967-2005 the Saints NEVER soldout season tickets. The year after Katrina they soldout.

You may have had fans..but not diehard, fans like today.

See this article buddy- 2006 is the beginning of the Brees, Payton, Reggie Bush era

LINK

NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints officially sold out
the entire regular-season home schedule in the Louisiana Superdome.

It is the first time in the history of the franchise, founded in
1967, that every available seat is owned by a season ticket holder.

I am very thankful for what Saban did here, but I dont follow him around like a sad puppy pulling for who he coaches. I have my allegiances vested in my school and my state. Not some paid gun who is only out for his own legacy and checkbook in mind.

Sorry, but if someone pulls for Alabama and uses the Saban excuse I tend to have very little respect for that person and question their judgement.

What does that have to do with supporting Dallas?

The only people that supported Dallas was in the Shreveport area. How many season ticket holders today are from that area?

The thought of a team being good and resulting in more local sales never occurred to you?
