We all know the story of Baker Mayfield, walking on at two different colleges, and subsequently winning the Heisman. My question is: Has any preferred walk-on quarterback ever been relevant at LSU? Why do they sign on? I see where some have offers from other places(small schools). Does the coaching staff even look to see if these guys have anything to offer?Quarterback play by guys LSU recruited has been less than stellar, maybe they could do better. Maybe a guy from the baseball team LOL!

Being on the team at LSU>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "small schools" if you're in it just for the college life experience.

I mean, it's not like LSU's tuition is going to break the bank.

not many people in this world can say that they played QB for a major university...walk-ons can check that box. I would certainly help in the dating department, but honestly, simply being able to say that you played football for LSU opens all kinds of doors in later life. And, if the team wins a national championship while you are playing, you get a ring just like the scholarship guys.

Short QBs are sometimes alltime great bargains

Drew Bree’s in the second
Russell Wilson in the 4th

Kinda paved the way for Mayfield at 1.

I think I'd rather play at a smaller school just in case the light came on for me. Plus, you'll still get the girls there, probably more so since you're actually playing.

For the record, backups backup at LSU probably does better in the dating department than the starter at Nicholls, all things being equal.

For you to truly get the benefit of being a big fish in a small pond, you have to go to a pond where the fishes care about the team.

When I was at Southeastern, for example, most of the girls and/or guys couldn't name the starting quarterback. Does you no good to be on that team.

Also does very little good to say you played college football at Southeastern compared to LSU during job interviews. Considering most employers don't care about playing time.

Was Andrew Hatch a walk on? I can't remember.

Matt Mauck comes to mind. A baseball player from Indiana and a walk-on QB who turned out pretty good.

Haha ... yeah, I would say so. National champion and I believe still holds the record for most pass TDs in a season with JaMarcus. I'm going off of memory on that one though.

I rather sit the bench at LSU than start at Southeastern. It would probably open a lot of networking doors in your career after college especially if you wanted to be a coach.
