You cannot just dump him “with cause” unless you have Briles-level evidence and documentation. He would sue for all salary plus damages and it would be a shite-show and result in a massive settlement. There is no getting rid of him without a lot of money getting paid out.

Exactly and it’s bullshite. I haven’t paid much attention to this story...until now. This stupid cancel culture and “Dear Colleague” nonsense is about to be running rampant again and I would not be surprised if heads roll for virtually no reason except being accused. Whoever is complicit needs to be gone but with the current cancel culture there always seems to be collateral damage and shrapnel could land anywhere. Geez...

After reading the USA Today article, I’m thinking the authors are helping set the stage for a return to the Obama era “Dear Colleague” protocols set by the Dept of Education. This is where the accused are practically assumed guilty and they must prove their innocence. All the while they can be kicked out, lose scholarship funding or placements, etc before they have successfully fought the charges.
yep... very scary... whats stopping women from making accusations all the time?...

Petrino created a state government position and then rigged the hiring process to hire his paramour over more qualified candidates. Without that hiring thing, you’re correct, but breaking state hiring laws could have gotten the athletic department in really deep shite so they had cause.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Petrino was caught passing over a more qualified candidate to hire a woman he was banging. He was fired because of this. That is a violation of state law. This has been covered. He had to be fired because of this.
Plus they had him red-handed cheating with an engaged woman in her 20s who was associated with the university. He was dead either way.
None of this is bad as what Art Briles did, but I’m not making value judgements here. I’m talking about evidence. In that regard, Petrino had more verifiable damning evidence against him than Briles.
