However for me watching the opposing team continually run their punter out on the field is what I'm hoping for more than anything else. This side of the ball needs a few more pieces hope they eventually get back to a real LSU defense similar to 2011. That is when we can all say LSU is back baby!

Our defense will be interesting to see this year…our secondary could take a leap but our linebackers are a weak spot unless Tolan really steps up.

He does not have accuracy problem! He has a fear of throwing deep! We have great coaches they will break the fear or he will not start! I think he breaks through the mental part and has a great season! Tigers go to the big dance in 2023

This narrative keeps being thrown out there, but the stats do not support the narrative.

10th in the SEC in yards per attempt. He is not a great passer of the ball when throwing 15+ yards downfield. That’s just the truth.

Watch how many swing passes JD throws where the RB has to turn back for the ball and tell me how accurate he is. Same for slants for our WR’s. Most of the time they are caught which helps his completion % but they get no YAC. That’s why you see all the 5-7 yard comebacks toward the end of the year. Hope JD improves.

Totally agree. The LB's are missing a player or two but not far off. Maybe CBK works some magic through the portal. I actually expect this.

The 2022 defense had some really great moments in that 3 game stretch when "LSU" beat FL, Ole Piss & Bama. Literally championship caliber defense.

The entire team was patch work except for WR's & D-line. I believe CBK will fill the positions so LSU can be competitive 2023 .I full expect the focus to be more balanced when it comes to recruiting for 2024. Lets go!

This is true and I believe the staff padded his stats with this type of play. However the staff proved themselves extremely good using his limited abilities as a passer to sandlot teams to victory.

JD's style "currently" isn't pretty but if you listen to CBK in the spring game interview he is talking about JD's footwork and the process. 2022 was JD's to learn a multitude of facets of the position. I feel the staff will have him greatly improved in 2023.

Do I have my doubts yes but I trust the staff and hope he grasps the position and becomes elite. It truly is insulting to the kid to think he can't improve with the best coaching he's had thus far in his career topping that with continued opportunities to gel with the team creating chemistry. Yes it was frustrating watching him at times but there were also times when we were all saying if he could just be more consistent. Well here's to hoping for more consistency.

Daniels has been starting for 4 years. He is not going to make a giant 2nd year jump like Burrow or most QBs cuz its not his 2nd year. He also not going to make the big jump of playing in a new system cuz it's the same system. It's not a good comparison.

I think 2023 compares a lot to the 2007 Patriots

This narrative keeps being thrown out there, but the stats do not support the narrative.

Stats are misleading though. If you actually watched the game, he rarely takes shots down the field unless the WR is wide open. So the trigger shy narrative is spot on.

You're correct, the stats speak for themselves. However, I think the problem is that Daniels typically only makes short safe throws. He tends to miss open WR's on a pretty constant basis. He's very hesitant to push the ball downfield and quite frequently when he does throw it beyond 10 yards or so, he throws it late allowing the defense to recover. It may result in a completion but the gain is modest compared to if he had thrown it on-time.

Daniels definitely has some positives but I think it rubs some fans the wrong way when supporters of his act as if criticism of him is unfair. He has plenty of negatives too. We are near the bottom of the SEC in explosive plays.

Daniels played very good in the SECCG. It would've been nice to see him 100% in that game. To me, whats most frustrating about him is I don't believe that he is incapable of making the throws. I think he is simply too focused on his stats and looking good for the scouts.

Its simple. If he remains hesitant, this year is the ceiling until he leaves. If he finally starts pulling the trigger and stop hesitating, LSU could finally make another CFB playoff.

I will never put JD in the same sentence as the greatest qb in college football history.

I get what you're saying I have been critical of him as well, referring to him as Jafraden Daniels. However JD is the starting qb I choose to get behind him even if I'm not a fan of his play "currently." I choose to give him and CBK the benefit of the doubt thinking JD will get the best coaching of his career this offseason with the opportunity to work with a stellar WR group. How can that not get better?

Say it does. Then the Les Miles 2.0 can be put to bed. I mean seriously isn't that what all LSU fans want a coach that can develop a qb. I mean JD is/was certainly a project. The spring game he was throwing it in the dirt and CBK was talking about his footwork. CBK won the west with a project lets see if he can tune it or not.

I'm in the LSU camp not JD's. The other qb's on the roster are getting good coaching too. They are all progressing. I found it foolish to hear all the criticism of Nuss as well. He's a young kid with a lot to learn but he made the entire offense look really good in a half of play, it shouldn't be discredited by a few sensitive insecure people. Nuss will be a good player and I have also been critical of him.

I hope for all the players. Respectfully this is a thread about coaching, continuity & the staff using what they have to be successful. JD is a small fraction of that but seems everyone has to choose a side.

I choose CBK's side even if I don't like it. I'm a defense fan anyway wake me up when they take the field. I just want to scream "you better keep your punter warmed up! <-- it's been a while.
