That would suck for Alabama.

How so? They’d draw one of the top 4 programs in LSU (as they should), a second top half team in Auburn (as they should) and Tennessee who is borderline 8/9. No, they won’t have a bottom feeder, but they could choose Miss St instead of Tennessee. They shouldn’t get to avoid the top programs just because they want Auburn and Tennessee.

Yes, tradition is dumb. Who cares about the Iron Bowl, Red River Shootout, World’s Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party, the Egg Bowl, etc.

"Part of the discussion". Exactly who votes on this, the A.D's or presidents? Would doubt that the coaches, except for Saban, obviously, are allowed to be a part of the discussions, let alone vote.

They aren’t getting a slate that easy. They will get a second upper tier team, almost certainly A&M.

That would make sense. I’m just telling what I heard from a guy who generally has access to inside info.

I forget which team he said was pushing back against a Texas/Texas A&M permanent opponent, maybe it was both, but he said they won’t be permanent opponents.

Things change, he could be wrong, but he told me this before I even knew about the three permanent team deal and wanted to know if I knew who LSU would draw. His guess was A&M and Ole Miss, he didn’t know the third.

It won’t be Bama. They will already have Auburn and Tennessee.

It’ll be A&M, Ole Miss and TBD.

Tennessee is likely to be considered bottom half, so Bama would still need a second top tier team. They also need a top 4 opponent like LSU.

In many of the possibilities, LSU is going to need someone to play on rivalry week.

The Aggies will get Texas. No way that doesn’t happen
OU plays OSU if Bedlam continues
Arkansas gets Mizzou unless the Border War with Kansas resumes

Could a regular game against Tulane return?

This was brought up on the SEC rant.

That could be the case. If so, they’d get someone like LSU or Florida as the third permanent opponent, not Missouri.

I definitely don’t see Auburn as 1 of the 3 for LSU since that would mean Auburn’s 3 would be Bama, LSU & UGA. And that would also mean Bama’s 3 would be Auburn, LSU & Tenn.

That shite definitely wont fly LOL!

Since they can't do UGa/Bama yearly

They certainly can now.

Athens is an hour closer to Tuscaloosa than Baton Rouge is. If your logic is they want the highest rated games, those programs are objectively higher on the pedestal than ours at the moment.

I would fricking love Georgia to experience having to play Bama in the regular season every year.

Bama/UT
Bama/Auburn
UGA/Auburn
UGA/Florida
LSU/Ole Miss

We can't do away with those. Those are iconic games for different reasons.

Let’s wait until Saban retires, until we make Alabama a permanent opponent.

I don’t think that’s going to happen unless at least one other Big 12 team has a non-conference rival for rivalry week. Otherwise that would force someone else to have a last week bye. The easiest solution is LSU-Oklahoma, but it could be a rotation like LSU-Oklahoma and Arkansas-Missouri one year and LSU-Arkansas and Oklahoma-Missouri the next.

If this was 3-4 years ago, sure, AND they ranted for the last 30+ years that the Alabama/Tennessee game HAD to be continued yearly due to tradition.

Those at the SEC HQ will not saddle Alabama with 3 tough common opponents. Their 3rd will probably be Vanderbilt or Mizzou.

SEC HQ doesn’t get to decide this. It’s a vote of all 16 member schools. Bama won’t get preferential treatment. If they want their weakest permanent opponent to be easier, then they’ll have to give up Tennessee for someone like Miss St. They don’t get to avoid the real big dogs in the conference by holding onto Tennessee.

I agree. This is my favorite LSU game every year. I hate that we will probably lose it. It’s been played every year for the last 50 and the record is dead even.
