It’s been a popular thought in the past to make Les Miles some sort of an Ambassador for the Athletic Department. Could this agreement make this a possibility?

Not unless Alleva is fired in the coming days.

Do you not realize he’s about to take another job? Why else would he willingly give up $5 million?

there's no way Miles negotiated that settlement without already having another coaching job. Alleva got played on that.

Not necessarily because the only way Miles's buyout went away with a new job is if his new job was going to pay him more than his LSU salary. Kansas isn't going to pay him $4.3M per year. LSU would very likely still owe him buyout money with a new job.

I hate Alleva too but doing what is in the best interest of both parties is getting played and you're doomed to fail in business if that's you're definition of "Getting played"

Miles' buyout was $9.6M to be paid over 6 years. That is $1.6M a year. LSU was about 2 years into the buyout, with $6.5M left. If any job pays him even just $1.6M per year, it would be the same as what LSU has been paying him. His buyout language stipulated that the pay from any coaching job he got would offset what LSU owes him by the same amount.

How? LSU was still going to have to pay Miles some of the buyout. His new job is going to pay less than his annual buyout figures. They probably already know the terms of his new deal and paid him what the difference is up front (possibly at a slight discount) instead of paying it over the next couple years or however long the buyout had left.

Regardless of the reason, Alleva didn't get played. It was the smart move and likely saved LSU lots of money. Sure, if KU (or somebody else) was going to pay more than 4.3 million/year then LSU was better off telling Miles to go pound sound; however, that is highly unlikely. Anything other than this scenario and LSU comes out ahead.

The Athletic Dept was already paying him ~$1.6 Million a year to go away. I'm not so sure what direction the math would move to make him Football Ambassador.
