Since the fans want to win, and to win the players need to play their best....
how are they chasing mediocrity?

I'm sure there is much more I'm forgetting, but I'd love to see an estimate per year.
And the players earn that from money in TV contracts just as much as they do paid attendance.
Do the players owe CBS and ESPN as well?
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:16 am to CptBengal
No. I try to avoid haing an entitlement mentality.
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:17 am to TIGRLEE
Maybe. But the question centered on LSU's fans.

but neither the TV contracts or the paid attendance would exist without the fans.

Really, so the support from fans that drives the program, allows for the money, facilities, etc....all from the fans, means nothing?
No. It means that the players will be put in a position to succeed as a team, which is what the fans want--primarily for their own gratification, btw.

Oh and again, having never attended LSU, why do you have such strong opinions on how alumnus and fans should behave?
No taking the bait. This issue has been beaten to death.
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:19 am to CptBengal
No, but they owe their teammates everything.
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:20 am to TigerFanNKaty
So if they owe their teammates everythingand the teammates.forgive them, why can't other people
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:20 am to TigerFanNKaty
No, just themselves, the school, the staff and the team.
Posted on 10/20/11 at 9:21 am to TigerFanNKaty
Without the fans, LSU football wouldn't be what it is. If no fans go to the games, the program doesn't make money and cant attract the big name recruits.

Bc the large majority of fans, in all fanbases not just LSU, are uninformed or not equipped with necessary experience to make the right calls/decisions.
If pro teams just wanted to keep fans happy the first round of thr draftwould be nothing but QB/WR/RBs.
If college teams just tried to keep fans happy they would always start the newest 5 star recruit, or blitz 9 guys every down. Etc etc

Nobody's hatin on the players, just hatin the situation.
In this case that maybe true but with JJ it wasn't.
There is what 100 players on the team? If you took a 100 college kids(non athletes) I am sure there would be more problems on average whether it be drugs, fights, DWI's etc. I just don't understand why some fans hold them to a higher standard than other kids the same age. In most cases when an athlete is in the wrong they suffer more consequences than the average college student. I am not happy that they f'd up but I certainly am not going to throw stones and act as if they owe me to never do anything stupid.

Since the fans of the University were fans before, and very likely after the players leave, why is this motivation a negative.

I havent seen it ever brought up...and am genuinely curious why a Cornell grad in DE would have such a driving affinity for LSU. Care to answer?

And the huge tv deals wouldn't exist wout the relationship btw LSU and the rest of the SEC. LSU by itself does not get a huge tv contract so do the players owe the Bama fans something? Do they owe the average fan who will tune into watch Bama/LSU in 2 weeks? Do they owe the SEC offices?
How far down the rabbit hole do u want to go?

it's not a rabbit hole.
technically, NONE of it exists without the fans from all the schools.
NONE OF IT.

"Unit...Corps...God...Country."
players...team...football...LSU, it's really that simple. the fans are just fluff.
shite man, they sing to you after every game. isn't that enough?

there is no Les Miles.
there are no crystal footballs.
