yes but lots of people who have no idea what the stat even really means are like frick YEAH, I'VE BEEN TRYING TO THINK OF A WAY TO PUT IT, BUT I HAVEN'T UNTIL THIS THREAD. GEAUX TIGAHS!

that's confirmation bias. they're just seeking any random stat that backs up their preconceived notion

Yards/Point is a team stat, not an offensive stat SFP.

it judges the entire team? how?

I did it based on points per yard because I liked the metric more then yards per point.

theres still 3 games (hopefully) of football yet to be played, but the 2011 LSU team deserves to be mentioned as one of the best ever.

why not just look at field position, then?

Because if points weren't included you couldn't tell how well the team capitalizes on said field position.

It has already been explained in this thread and you've already responded to it.

does it really matter?

if you score on an 80-yard drive, that likely was a great drive

why is it more valuable to score on a 50-yard drive? how does that say anything about your offense different than the other drive?

relative to its year? likely

i think this is a down year for CFB (not that it's anything new. it's been sliding since about 2005 for whatever reason)

our efficiency matters more we could have more raw passing yards if we wanted

I'm not convinced you can turn these things off and on when you want. Sure, you can develop timing in practice, but that can fail you in game time and a lack of clutch experience in the passing game can be daunting.

As could be expected, LSU is actually ahead of the pack by a very large margin averaging over one tenth of a point for every hard we have gained.

So pull em out boys!! Lets make this offense #1!!!

i'm not either. the bama game worried me in this regard. if we get down on a team with a solid D we may have issues

but if JJ plays like he did against ole miss, i feel safer

It isn't more valuable, points are points. It just shows teams can be efficient and effectively run up scores without the need for high total yard outputs.

My preconceived notion:
This "DAMN STRONG" LSU Team is the best in the country.

Random stats to back it up:
11-0, Unanimous #1, Perfect BCS ranking of 1.0

Guess I'm guilty of confirmation bias....

efficient? yes

but i don't think it shows how good an offense is, esp if we're throwing in special teams scoring

theoretically, you could drive 20 yards each time and kick a FG and have a 0.15. 25 yards would be a 0.12

that really doesn't say shite about your offense. it says you have a good-great kicker, though

I already said it isn't just an offensive stat. I clearly said "teams" not "offenses", you even quoted it in your response. As for the actual numbers, I prefer to look at it as yards/point.

I wouldn't go so far as to call us the best offense

i wouldnt either, but the stats are very interesting...it shows how much the def and sp teams help our offense be higher rated then it should be...

good work man...

very true....im sure they are hard core JJ supporters....it doesnt show an effective or ineffective QB, it shows an effective or ineffective football strategy...
