but you might consider doing Yards per Point so you're dealing with real numbers instead of thousandths and tens of thousandths in decimals.

Just take 1 divided by the Points/Yard to get Yards/Point. But yeah, it might look a little better that way.

question

the OP has 378 points

we've throw 19 TDs and run for 29 TDs

that's 48 total TDs

LINK

378/48 = 7.875

but anyway, 48 TDs = 288 points. 4148 total yards.

that's 0.0694

the 2005 USC offense (considered the best of the modern era)

7537 yards and 83 TDs (498 points)

that's 0.0647

I'm aware of how to invert a number. It was just a suggestion for the OP on a cleaner look for his stats that obviously took some time. ESPN Stats & Info guys do this for a living and we never see stuff this good.

the kicking game is special teams. besides, the offense failed to score a TD on that drive

Offense supposedly gained the yards to get ST in range for a field goal, though.

Also, field goals reset the field of position, like touchdowns. This stat reflects how good your team is at gaining good field position through turnovers, punt returns, kickoff returns, making them punt deep in their own territory, etc...

At least that's how I understand it.

We've put up some impressive rushing yards and lots of scoring. The problem is offensive balance and being able to score when you have to. Frankly, we haven't been in that situation all season other than Alabama and maybe Miss State. Last I checked we had teh 103rd ranked passing attack. That is a glaring weakness that may (not definitely, not even probably) pose a problem over the next 2/3 games.

yes but making FGs has nothing to do with the offense. it cuts both ways. if you count FGs, and your kicker misses a FG, it would negatively reflect on the offense

unless you miss, and then it's like failing on a 4th down conversion

why not just look at field position, then?

They failed to score the td. They did score the field goal.

Who scores the extra point?

i agree. we're built to be front runners. we had issues with MSU and were real bad against bama

our efficiency matters more we could have more raw passing yards if we wanted

special teams

again, you shouldn't punish an offense for a kicker missing a PAT (or FG)

that's why i added up TDs for offensive scoring

Yards/Point is a team stat, not an offensive stat SFP.

And it isn't just confirmation bias, these numbers are actually tracked on several websites outside of this thread.

no, that's an offensive player fricking up, which should count against the offense
