PMAC Seating Capacity

So Alleva brought up that the PMAC is too big and should be condensed. I think we should condense it until there is a consistent need for more seats (basketball wise) in order to fill the lower seats and give the effect of a full Arena.
Here are some other notable arenas to compare it to:
Rupp Arena (UK): 23.5k
Cameron Indoor Arena (Duke) : 9.3k
Dean Smith Center (UNC) : 21.75k
PMAC : 13.2k
What says the rant?

The PMAC is just fine if you have a winning product on the floor.

I don't mind the capacity of the PMAC, but the layout of it needs to be brought out of the 70's.

I definitely think the whole idea behind losing seats is not because it's "too big".
It's the fact that LSU does not have premium seating and in order to add premium seating you have to lose actual seats.
In no way could I believe Alleva was saying that we cannot fill the 13.2k stadium. It was that it lacks the amenities that 2017 stadiums require to be considered elite.

We need to get the press out of the fricking bleachers first of all.

Gym is bigger than basketball and they need the seats. Basketball needs nothing!

The Cajun dome is light years ahead of pmac

Need more free seats to watch them choke?

I don't think he wants to permanently remove seats, but when's the last time we filled that arena for a bball game?
And yes, winning will fill it. But when are we going to win to the point of selling out the PMAC? Maybe in year 2 or 3 at best. So why not in the interim just sell the lower bowl seats to give the illusion of a packed arena?

Novel idea...don't charge $20 to watch LSU play Texas Southern.
They could fill the arena if they really wanted to.

On another note, I'm all for whatever they can do to make that place for comfortable. I'm 6'1 and watching a game in the PMAC is incredibly uncomfortable for me because of leg room, etc.

I don't know if it was Aleva's idea or what, but moving the student section to behind the goal and taking up some prime seating for reporters is asinine. The last time the PMAC was rocking, which also coincided with our last Final 4 team, the student section was sitting mid-court on the sideline behind the commentators. Now I understand that the school was trying to create more revenue with premium seats, but when the student section got moved behind the goal, behind the band, behind the friggin reporters, and all the way at the top of the bowl, no students want to attend games, even if it is free, because those seats are so shitty and away from even remotely affecting the game with crowd noise. Bring the student section back down along the court and you'll bring back the magic.
Most of the great CBB venues have the students right up against the court, case in point:
Cameron Indoor
O'Connell Center
Bring Back the Deaf Dome Aleva!

I don't think selling out the lower bowl with season ticket holders is much of a problem. The problem is that most of those seats are sold to businesses, not individuals, and for most of the crappy mid-week non-conference games, those seats are left empty. If you move the student section back to it's traditional location, at least the seats that are given away will be occupied with fans that will actually stand up and scream.

they need to do a complete gutting of the PMAC.
Play a year or so at the rivercenter, and then rebuild the interior of the PMAC. It needs club seating/suites. it needs the students closer to the court. it needs the media anywhere but where they are. Lots of things are possible, probably reduce the overall capacity to around 12,000

Alleva wants to raise ticket prices. Can't justify that when the arena is 1/4 full. If they convert a bunch of regular seats into fewer luxury boxes/premium seats they are killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

That was the whole justification of moving the students to the baseline with the reporters, so that premium seats would come available. It killed the atmosphere though.

When I was in school the PMAC used to seat over 15,000 and we used to pack it every game. It does not have to be condensed. We should rebuild it and make it bigger and better. What we need is a better product on the court.

The stadium is plenty nice enough. I think they are adding a new video board? What kind of fan goes to games just because the stadium is nice anyway?

blow it up, play in Parker for a season. build a field house like Cameron Indoor

Nonsense...Alleva needs to get a winner in there. If you win, they will come.
