Again, because the other $403 is "other fees" not tuition. Just clarifying that TOPS still pays 100% of tuition.

No it's not. Did you even read your own link. It shows what tops pays 1100. Now go to Tech site since you think I'm stupid and see just "tuition" is 1503. The fees make it a hell of a lot more.
Again I wish some of you were running Tops because you are sooo much smarter then everybody else.

One other clarification I don't recall seeing in the thread: TOPS can also be used to pay tuition at private colleges and universities in LA; it does not have to be a state sponsored/public college or university.

I was hoping that someone would post that.

Everyone needs to look into a 529 Plan for college savings. There are planty out there so choose wisely. LA's 529 plan is very good, if you want your kids to stay in state.

TOPS is a public policy outgrowth of a private initiative started by transplant LA. oil man Patrick F. Taylor (Taylor Energy). He initiated and funded the Taylor Plan which provided tuition for deserving highschool graduates. The LA state govt. followed by implementing the TOPS program several years later.

Pat Taylor, R.I.P.

If you go on Tops you don't get to belly up to the training table I assume...this would not be good for football recruiting

I wish to hell I could find the letter Mr. Taylor wrote to the Lafayette newspaper about leaving the program he initiated in the hands of state government. He knew what would happen to it.

Very definately R.I.P. A good man.

Here we go! Wish someone would have taught you to read. Here is the La. Tech Cost of Attendance calculator:

Cost of Attendance Calculator

Line 1 of the calculated fees says: Your estimated tuition and fees are:

When the fields are populated, that value equals $1,503 just as you said. And it includes what?

Your estimated tuition and fees are:

See that word "fees" in there Scooter?

pretty much ended NEB as a relevant football power?

The Big XII ending the the practice of taking Non-Qualifiers and unlimited "Partial Qualifiers" hurt them more than anything else.

quote:

The Big Eight didn't limit the number of partial qualifiers a school could have and allowed nonqualifiers to enroll at institutions. Nonqualifiers had to sit out the first year - paying their own tuition - and then were eligible to play the second year provided they passed 24 credit hours over two semesters.

It's a stark contrast to the Big Eight Conference days, when Nebraska athletic teams would take at least a half dozen nonqualifiers and partial qualifiers each year.

quote:

What upset Osborne at the time was the limits on partial and nonqualifiers. Some conferences like the Big Ten, don't have any.

"Where this rule can hurt you is if a player is considering Nebraska and Ohio State or some other school in the Big Ten," Osborne said. "The initial signing day is in February."

"If that player is on the bubble and hasn't gotten the ACT score yet," Osborne said, "he probably is going to choose Ohio State because he knows he can sit out, pay his own way and then play his second year if he doesn't get the score."

Good ole Tom showing so much concern for the student athlete!

So you think every LA HS "graduate" deserves a college education for free?

You don't give up talking about something you know nothing about. My son's tuition and fees are 3995 per quarter. I know how to read a bill. You seem to have trouble reading your own links.
Read your link for Tops it pays 1100 and here is a easy to read link for you since you have a hard time at comprehension LINK with tuition for La Tech 1503 and if you keep on reading there is a list of the fees to add to that. Please stop making a complete arse out of yourself "scooter". Are you really college educated or still in High School where your parents pay your bills and you have no clue about the real world.

Didnt you have to maintain a 2.5 or better in college to keep this when it began? And has that changed to a 3.0 now?

Also a quarter at Tech is 12 hours and you go 3 Quarters not four. The fourth quarter is only for the slow people like you. Again you talk about something you don't know scooter.

No, not necessarily. I think there should be a minimum amount of time that you have to work in the state after graduation. I also like the idea of having to repay the TOPS contributions if you flunk out of school.

The 35 man roster eliminated any built in advantage for LSU baseball. It definitely helped back in the 90's but LSU can't stockpile 10-15 walk ons on ToPS on the baseball team anymore.

It doesn't help basketball because you only need 10 players anyway and LSU can barely find 5 good players right now.

Football gets 25 like anyone else, some of the walk ons might have tops but they're still walk ons.

Did you even bother to check out the link I posted. It is from your school's web page. It says tuition and FEES dipshit! I can't help it if you are in the midst of a panic attack because you see how much that college education is going to cost you.

My parents haven't paid my bills for over 20 yrs Scooter, but I know how to read. And from what I can see on the La. Tech website that I posted for you earlier, the $1,503 includes tuition and FEES. Didn't say it includes all fees! Keep on panicking Scooter.

I know that dumbass. But did you know that quarter hours are not the same as semester hours. That is why you have to go more quarters. At least your username is correct.

Could post all your shite in one post?

I can't figure out how kids manage to play baseball at the likes of Tulane, Rice, and Vandy where costs are about $50K. Take out the one-third scholarship payment and they've got to find a way to about $33K per year.
Baseball players who make it to the next level are often with parents who have dough. Think about it, all summer ball, etc. Perhaps why there are a lot more caucasians?
