8 used to make sense to me but since LSU is 7 this year and has no business being in the playoff they should stick with 4.

I would be happy with 8, but looking at that bracket, I have to admit, is really exciting

There is some validity to this. It isn't very often that the number 8 team would have a realistic chance in the playoff.

It is rare that there are more than 4 legit contenders. , so 4 is fine. Maybe expand to 6 with the top 2 getting a first round bye.

6 teams NFL Style

Top 2 get a bye

3 vs 6 & 4 vs 5 on campus. Everything after that will be neutral site

8 would be great but no more. Could remove conference championship games and it would be the same amount of games. First round on higher seeds home field. Semifinals and finals on neutral site.

My issue with 8 is that a team with name recognition such as Bama, Ohio State, Clemson, or teams like that will get a longer leash than the rest of the country.

They’ll get to drop 2 games and still get in because of the eye test.

The rest of the country would still be held to a one loss max or you’re out.

I’d be down for 6 if it was 5 power 5 Champs and the best team from the group of 5.

I want conference championships to matter. If you don’t win your conference, you shouldn’t compete for the natty.

They may have no business being in the playoffs if it is four teams but if it is 8 teams they definitely have business being in there.

16 would be cool because some of those matchups make my dick hard.

16 would be bad because it's too many.

6 teams is perfect.

What he is saying is that we have no prayer at winning the natty even if we were let into an 8 team playoff.

Why have extra teams in the tourney if only 3 or 4 if them have a legit shot at winning?

16 is too much, that devalues the regular season too much. 8 teams is perfect - the 5 Power5 champs get an automatic bid and there are 3 at-large bids. It only adds one extra round of games.

If we really wanted to stretch it, we could go to 10 teams and have a couple play-in games.

I don’t like the playoff period and didn’t like the BCS in the first place. Most championships can be gauged without this model. This year is a prime example, Bama is the best team. The old model would put them in the Sugar Bowl against a Big10 runner up or a team like ND. Clemson would play in Citrus, Michigan or Ohio St vs Pac12 champ in Rose.
All of this extra stuff is just for the sake of marketing and money. Old model would’ve put us in Sugar Bowl against an inferior team in 2011 to win the Natty! More games is just silly.IMO

I've changed my mind almost every year on whether it should be 4 or 8. Sometimes both make sense given a particular season. I do wish they would eliminate the committee as the single determining factor though. I think using a formula like the old BCS to rank the teams where the committee poll is a variable in it would be the way to go. When I hear terms like "eye test" it just makes me eye roll.

I get your point, but it's not that simple. You shouldn't penalize a deserving team because they happen to be in a division with a great team.

What if we go 11-1 and our only loss is a 1-point loss to an undefeated Bama on the road. In that case, I think we'd all argue we should get in the playoff.

This is why all pro leagues have wild card teams.

We'll go to 8 after this season. Honestly I hope UGA beats Bama in the SECCG and Bama falls to either 4 or 5.
At 4, they bump MICH, country screams foul, PO's expand to 8 teams.
At 5, Bama nation screams foul (would be hilarious to watch unfold), PO's expand to 8 teams.
Either way, I'm hoping to see the expansion to 8 which is GOOD for CFB. It keeps more teams/fan bases interested and creates great matchups in the PO scenario.

I feel like that sucks but we had our chance. Let someone else get a turn. With that logic, it makes beating bama in the regular season almost meaningless cuz you will have to beat them again anyway and they’ll get an extra bye week to prepare for the playoffs.

I’m tired of “storied” programs back dooring their way into the playoffs. He’ll in 2014 or 2015, they put OSU in the playoff Instead of the big 10 champ (penn state).

Obviously I’d want LSU in if we were 11-1 in real life cuz I’m selfish but objectively speaking, you should have to win to get in.
