Neal was hitting .290 before he hurt his back. Went into a slump because of his injury before they shut him down for the year.

after nearly 20 games, we are experimenting with position players playing out of position. Uh, ok!

Neal hit 209 against mostly non SEC pitching. Let that sink in. Then got hurt and didn’t play again.

imagine trotting out last years stats like people don’t get better.

Yep. As a freshmen, he was decent and made good contact alot. I dont think any of these posters want to go down the roster and compare OPS and wRC for neal and his potential replacements

the issue is if you look at our best 9 hitters 3 may be our catchers
and we need hitting.
So what do you do?

Oh boy. The ole facts stuff strikes again. Facts undefeated vs emotions. Let me trot out some 2024 facts…..I mean STATS………..Neal was 0-10 his first 2024 SEC weekend. This means this past weekend. His 1 rbi was a bases loaded walk against Miss. State.
I’m sure Florida has Neal circled the same they did the middle of A&M’s lineup with 6-6 230lbs Laviolette and 6-2 225lbs Montgomery. Both projected first round picks. Montgomery 24. Laviolette 25.
But NEAL in the middle of our lineup
Can improve. Improve from what ??

Kling is the fly in the ointment. You sacrifice Kling's fielding capability by having to put an athlete catcher in RF, because the RF'er has to play left, so the LF'er can play CF to cover for Kling who can't hit a beach ball.
Yes, but as long as his defense doesn’t suffer Kling should never leave CF in SEC play. You can get away with a hitter in RF but not center.

Montgomery and laviolette are two of the best players in the country, hardly a fair comparison. But one is a year older than Neal and the other is 1.5 years older than Neal.
OPS for each player at age 19:
Montgomery 1.072
Brady Neal 1.150
Jace LaViolette 1.047

Just a reminder that Kling still leads Pearson in RBI, Runs, Ob%, Walks, HBP, Stolen bases, and fielding.
Pearson has 4 HRs and still has single digit RBIs. If Kling is on the bench, why is Pearson in the lineup?

So factoring in walks (OBP) by the 5-8 guy against mostly non sec pitching puts him on pace to be as good as or better than the A&M two. Last seasons non conference schedule was the weakest schedule by a power 5 school in the country. Gotcha. I’m sure Sully is shaking in his boots attempting to devise a pitching plan to slow ole Neal down.

I didnt use obp, i used ops, a better state for offensive success.
I didnt say it did, but you asked how he could improve. I provided you some reasons your examples of great players. Hell, i didnt even say Neal was going to become that this season.
It wasnt and this has nothing to do with last seasons non conference schedule

Rest of OF Can’t hit ??? Neal hit 209 last year. That’s right 209 last year in 88 PA. Struck out 31 percent of those plate appearances. If you use the AB k model, the strike out rate is 41 percent. I know facts facts facts. Who should go away now? Again, imagine being Mic Paul who runs a 6.5 60 and was given around 10AB all of last year watching ole 209 avg. lofted swing hitting catcher Brady Neal jog out to RF.
Are you really trying to argue that Mic Paul should be in the lineup over Neal?
Posted on 3/18/24 at 7:19 am to josh336
OPS is a combination of slugging percentage and on base percentage. Neal’s OBP was decent. Why? Pitiful non conference pitching to a 5-8 strike zone. Thus, Neal’s ops for last year was inflated.

We seem to miss play balls a lot.

Who do you want to replace him?
