They're pursuing a medical redshirt year for him for this season. That indicates to some degree that he will come back. He's not a guy that will command a huge signing bonus, so his decision will be based mostly around how soon does he want to pursue pro ball. His offers there won't change meaningfully from this year to next.

Paz and Ricken have so much potential
Hopefully both return as well as Moore - at least he throws strikes

Rizy probably moves onto pro ball - a mlb team can fix him

I know Evans wants to be a starter and if LSU doesn't commit to that another team will but he needs to go back to the bullpen

we have a ton of young pitchers.

Evans, sophomore
Schmidt, sophomore
Rizy, sophomore
Cooper Williams, sophomore
Lachenmayer, sophomore
Plog, sophomore
Ricken, freshman
Sheerin, sophomore
Theophilus, freshman
Paz, freshman

I feel pretty good about that core. None of those guys have been worse than the upper classmen

It’s not going to be a complete overhaul but it will be some changes for sure. He is not running it back next year with these guys. No way in hell he keeps some of these guys

Do any of you mind explaining to me why we are bad at pitching but lead the league in strikeouts. Is it as simple as boom or bust?

We need a Friday starter every year.

But there is a much better chance our Friday night guy is already on the staff.

Some of yall don't realize the difference in our team from last year to this year re: pitching and it's very obvious. Last year we could count on Fri/Sat to go at least 7-8 innings of elite level pitching. The shite rolls down the hill as they say.

I think every LSU fan in the universe understands the difference in starting pitching we are getting in 2026 vs. 2025.

What in the world are you talking about?

Where he at? Moore would be the only option for Friday starter

Moore is probably the 3rd most likely option.

It's definitely time to pull the plug on Plog! He sucks, big time...I may have missed something during the season but can anyone tell me if this kid has ever shown any potential at all.

Tell me who your Friday starter is from this team right now.

The most likely candidate in my view is Evans and Schmitt. I'd put them about equal in probability.

Moore is the 3rd most likely option, IMO.

This is the correct view.

I think Moore is better than both of them but that's me. If we can get another starter from the portal then i like my starters on the weekend. A year experience they should be fine by next year. Add good relief pitching then it will be a whole lot better staff then this year i would think.

I think you're forgetting about Cooper Moore. Evans isn't going anywhere, and neither is Sheerin (if he decides to stay), Paz, Garcia, Guidry, Rickin, and Theo.

I think they should bring back Rizy. He had a good start to the season and is talented. I'd keep Williams and Plog as well.

Yeah, I really don't view it as a controversial opinion.

There's a chance we go land a definitive Friday night guy in the portal...but that's a bit of a long shot IMO.

I think we will add one elite type arm...but that guy is going to be in that same kind of mold that our top 3 are...equally likely to take a step forward and become that elite guy.

My brain tells me that Evans, with his pitch mix and natural stuff is the guy most likely to progress. But, Schmidt has done well and has been more consistent this year...and his spin rate was reported as elite at one point so I could see a world where he develops a true hammer.

But, if I had to pick one it would be Evans.

He looked like the more developed pitcher this year, no question. But, saying that he could be Fri guy (reasonable) is a lot different than saying "Moore would be the only option for Friday starter".

That's kind of crazy talk, IMO.

And, let's not pretend like Moore was dominating when he was injured. He was showing the same signs of struggling that the others were. And, pretty clearly, his natural stuff isn't on par with the other two.

It's a very long shot because for one, there aren't that many that will be in the portal, and two, knowing Schmidt and Evans are back will make them look elsewhere.

There are two weekend guys from Baton Rouge at Southern Miss that could absolutely help us but I really don't see a reason for either of them to enter the portal. There is a junior at Northwestern State that could be an option but he's getting draft buzz so would he pass that up to be one of 4 or 5 options here without a clear path to weekend starts?

We're going to have to make hay in the reliever market. Sheerin and Garcia are likely going pro. We have a couple JUCO guys coming in but one is big stuff with not a ton of command (and could still sign with the Yankees ahead of the upcoming draft).

Our incoming freshman class is going to get hit pretty hard by the draft because college bats and arms aren't performing well enough to command big bonuses. Look at the comments on here about how Curiel is playing and that he shouldn't be a first rounder and then reconcile that with every publication moving him UP in their mock drafts.

It's because the rest of the college bats have been awful.
