Yes he made 3 good plays.

How many good/impactful plays do you think a guy makes in a game? 3 is a lot for a guy's first start here! It's not like he got abused or they picked on him that game. I think it's a mistake letting this guy go

Tired of showing I can get it done what you gone do for me!

Purely speculation but I wouldn’t be surprised if this were scholarship-related. I remember running the scholarship numbers on the recruiting board about 2 months ago and thinking (surprisingly) that it was actually going to be tough to get below 85 if we took a full class of 32. We are currently at 29 with 3 spots left.

I haven’t taken a deep dive into the numbers since January, but it’s quite possible that the staff didn’t have room to give Pig Cage a scholly.

If so it’s an unfortunate situation. Say what you want about his performance in the bowl game - generally speaking if you play in 8 games and start 1 as a walk on, you’re probably going to be on scholarship the next year. I can’t imagine it’s common at major programs for players to contribute at that level and not be awarded scholarships. If that’s what is going on, I can’t fault the kid for being upset.

At the same time, though, the staff has to stay under the 85 cap while also doing what’s best for the program.

I could be completely off base. I’m just saying this because I remember this exact same discussion a couple of months ago re: Pig’s status as a walk on.

ETA: Just caught up, it sounds like that’s basically what happened (if the other guy’s info is reliable). Sucks but unfortunately that’s the nature of the beast.

He was not paying 45k to go to LSU as an in-state student.

When you factor in housing, living expenses, and food for the three semesters he was here, I'll bet his folks did probably shell out close to that amount. Remember, walk ons aren't allowed to be given anything by the program except equipment to use for practice/play.

I'm guessing he must have not qualified for TOPS. That would have helped out tremendously.

He has no business playing Corner so that the move by the staff does seem strange. The rational thing would have been to stick out the spring to prove what you can do for the new staff.

He was ready to compete and do whatever he need to do. He didn't want nothing given to him. He wanted to earn it. But when it's made clear that there is no opportunity to play or even get reps at practice to get fairly evaluate for playing time. What choice does the young man have. He's never been scared of competition. He was locked and loaded ready to go.

Serious question, are you his father?

Btw, for in-State students LSU costs 24k living in the dorms with a school meal plan, tuition included. It’s not double that

LINK

There are financial aid packages, student loans, etc. if his family is that bad off, I doubt they shelled out 45k in cash last year.

What choice does the coaching staff have? It’s their job to put together the best 85 scholarship players they can. They’re not in the business of keeping other coaches promises. If he was one of the best he would be getting the reps. Be grateful they were upfront and honest about it while he still has plenty of time to find a new home.

He gambled on himself and I respect that but it didn’t work out and that doesn’t mean it’s someone’s fault. shite doesn’t work out sometimes.

To be fair, both can be true - the player can be justified in his decision to leave and the staff can be justified in their decisions to move him to a different position and/or decline to offer a scholarship.

Whether his parents took out loans or took ot loans or not. LOANS NEED TO BE PAID THEY NOT FREE. WALK-ONS PAY FOR EVERYTHING. Regardless of what you think you THEY PAID.

Not while he’s in school. I know how they work. I took out loans myself. I’m 36 and still am paying off grad school loans. I’m just saying that his options aren’t 1) get a scholarship or 2) he can’t go to school

The kid can go somewhere else and not pay at all. LSU fans shouldn’t hold that against him.

ETA: That’s without considering whatever impact playing time has on the decision.

If the family doesn’t want to take out loans, that is their prerogative. Hell, that is pretty honorable these days. Around 45,000 for total of 3 semesters for EVERYTHING makes sense. Gas alone these days.....

It’s likely. He’s clearly good enough to start at the FCS level at a minimum.

I never once said the kid was in the wrong to leave. If you can get a scholarship elsewhere and can’t get one here then by all means go get it.

But an obvious friend or family member is here complaining that the current coaching staff didn’t uphold the promises of the former disastrous coaching staff.

Everyone in the country knew O was on shaky ground and that it would be unlikely he could keep any promises and anyone involved in the game knows that promises don’t overlap regime changes.

I guess my point is that both Pig and his family knew what they were gambling. They lost the bet. It happens and it’s no one’s fault.

The kid has two options. He can keep feeling sorry for himself and blaming everyone else or he can prove em wrong.

if he can find a spot on an FCS team. There are P5 scholarship players who enter the portal and can’t find a scholarship anywhere. Mannie Netherly, for example, never did and now drives a UPS truck

It is scholarship related. They told him he would be evaluated during the spring and possibly summer. Then they moved him from Nickel to cornerback the day before spring started. Because they said they were full at the Nickel position wherehe has been since he got here.. No opportunity to show what he can do to earn his scholarship.
