I get us taking the graduate transfer at CB, because of a need that should have been filled and wasn’t. Not sure I see the need to take Watson, the graduate transfer at RB. Seems like we with the talent rich class for 2019, we would be better served to use that remaining unused scholarship from last year to use om an early entrant for this next class. Am I missing something?

I think you're confusing the 25 signing limit with the 85 scholarship limit. You're certainly confusing me.

This question belongs on the Recruiting Board.

I would have rather carried the extra scholly over to next signing class. I'm with you OP, I do not see the need for the running back.

Let CEH get hurt, then you will see the need. It's like the CB spot. We have some really good frontline talent, but behind it is crickets. One injury at either spot and we are on thin ice. Two injuries (or some other kind of suspension or something like that) and we are really screwed.

This is how the downfall begins. O is a fricking idiot and will miss on positions of need and then fill them with inferior talent. Jucos and transfers are ok in baseball but you need 4 year talent in FB. This will become the norm with O. It already is. He’s in over his head and I still can’t believe he’s LSU’s coach.

O treating CFB recruiting as if it's free agency in the NFL. How many elite programs out there are trying to build their roster with graduate transfer players?

I agree about the cb and rb. I'm not sure if the unused scholarships roll over, they've changed the rules up and I'm not up to date on that. Definitely disagree if the scholarships roll over to use them on graduate transfers because more than likely they will not start for you. Don't like the idea of juco players either, unless you are 100% sure they come in and start for 2 years and/or it was a player you recruited out of high school and know their abilities.

The initial counter (Recruit signee) would be available to use as a back counter for next year's class.

Right now, LSU has 26 spots for the 2019 class. If the transfer running back signs, LSU loses one and only gets the 25 allotted for next year.

While I understand people say that there is no guarantee we'll use all 26 spots, with O in charge we learned last year how important that extra spot was. With his stupidity, it cost us a very good CB recruit because he went after a mediocre QB with little chance of coming here. That is why having spots available for that class are crucial, because the man in charge has no foresight.

There’s a difference between getting a couple of stop-gap transfers and “building your roster” with them.

There is no carry-over anymore. We only get to sign 25 next year no matter what - so if we don't fill up the remaining two from this year, they go to waste.

And...

We are fairly thinly stretched at RB this year

And...

This guy is productive and proven - never turn down a known quantity.

This was a good move.

The man in charge is looking at the roster for the 2018 season and sees the need for another RB.

True. But all indications are he builds his roster with them bc he misses in 4 year guys. This happend at OM too.

Eauxeau’s binder: page 47: section 2, article 8; paragraph 7: hope and pray for JUCO and graduate transfers.

Yes you are missing something. Knowledge of depth problems in our running back position. O and his staff need to win this year and every year. He can't afford to wait and take a chance that one or more of his running backs are injured. His best back is small and the next man up is average or below average in talent for the position. Bringing in another starter is an imperative. Tomorrow never comes for coaches who don't win. He and his staff know what they are doing.

How could anyone go thru last years recruiting cycle and still be so ignorant of this rule. Yes, you can still backcount. The unused ships from last year can be applied to EEs in January. The rules expanded on who counts and what counts, but did not change this aspect.
