Same. Bad enough that we missed out on some Disney and Universal time to practice, and then we couldn't even do the show because the facilities people were frantically trying to put the sod back together at halftime...

It was so stupid. And yeah, the sod was literally coming up in its original squares and leaving nice slippery patches of mud. It took a ton of concentration to not fall on my face during pregame. :|

The day the Citrus Bowl truly became a joke. As much trash as I've talked about the Cotton Bowl, it had nothing on that garbage. I wonder what went through the players' minds the first time they saw the field.

Embarrassment of a field. Couldn't believe they called it a prestigious bowl.

Trindon, especially.

FWIW, postgame comments

"That was by far the worst field conditions I've ever seen in my life. For them to say this is the best bowl outside the BCS, I would expect to play on the best field outside the BCS," said LSU receiver Brandon LaFell.

So, I was a FS/WR in high school. Well, practice was cancelled one day due to torrential downpours. Well, most of the team went to some playground and played an impromptu game in the mud. One of our slow arse offensive linemen somehow caught a pass and I was about a yard behind him yet could not catch his slow arse. That's what I was reminded of watching that Penn State game. That field made everyone slow.

I was there, too. Very, very fortunate that none of the players had a career-ending injury. The field was a disgrace before they let bands on it prior to the game, and as bad as it was at the end of thehalf, they let the bands back on at halftime. Somebody left his brain at home that day.

I live in the area and attended the game. It was just horrible. The local media did a really good job of holding the city accountable. The city has spent nearly 4 million dollars doing renovations to the facility including new artificial turf. It is still a really bad facility but it is the best it is going to ever be in Orlando since nobody plays there any more.

It definately killed our offense because our receivers had no chance of making any type of cuts while running routes.

Advantages are good weather most of the time and of course all of the attractions. I guess you have to pick your poison with a Trip to the Capital One Bowl.

I was at the game and I knew it was going to be a long day when the teams were going through warmups. It really took away from the game experience not being able to watch these athletes display their true abilities. By far the worst playing field conditions I've seen at any level.

ditto

Last year was my final year.

But that wasn't a "field," That was a giant bowl of dirt filled with water and grass blades sprinkled on top. At least 70% of my shoe was submerged every step, not kidding

The field is not nearly as disgraceful as that Soul Trainesque 'Orlando' sign on the scoreboard. I still cant believe we lost to that team.

I don't remember exactly (I know it rained), but didn't that pathetic excuse for a field come from some geniuses, or whoever makes the groundskeeping decisions, who decided to put in new sod a few days before the game?

we were there and watched players just hurl full pieces of sod out of the way

there were some rumors floating around that the field conditions were intentionally left to get to that state so the city could get fieldturf installed.

HAHAHAH We ended the game on 3rd down with 39 YARDS TO GO from the 22 yard line with 0 timeouts. That is so typical of the Miles/Jefferson/Crowton era

I still don't understand why LSU and Penn State did not refuse to play on that field. I know LSU had a contract with the Citrus bowl to play in that game. There was a great threat against all of the players on that field that could of jepordizing their health and future professional careers. LSU and Penn State should have both stood up for their players and said no we will not play on that field. We owe it our young players not to jepordize there health and careers to play on such a substandard playing field.

You wanna be the one to tell that to the seniors on both squads?
