I don't believe the Cotton bowl has much appeal outside of Texas's reach (Let's say big 12 South). I'll take the Capitol one every time.

New Years day has such an aura about it; Big X/SEC game starts at 10 am...then it's off to the races. I think there are 3 big X/SEC games this year on Jan 1. Jan 7 is a good day because it's the only game, but everyone watches football Jan 1 cause you're off from work and hungover from new years

Jerry World>>>>>>>> Muddy field in a dumpy stadium in Florida. Florida in January = overrated.
Last three trips to bowls in FLA = losses to '88 Syracuse, '04 Iowa, '09 Penn State.
NO THANKS TO OUTBACK OR WHAT'S IN YOUR WALLET BOWL!!!!

Cotton Bowl would be better than Cap 1 crap. Doesn't anyone remember last year's Cap 1 bowl in Orlando? At least they don't replace the turf in Jerry's house 3 days before a bowl game. It was almost like watching a Three Stooges movie seeing LSU backs and receivers slip and slide around on a field where huge square clumps of turf were flying up everytime they made a cut. JoPa and Penn State won by two points because they played typical Paterno-style Big-10, straight ahead, smashmouth football while LSU tried the fast, nible sprint-to-the-outside offense.
Cotton Bowl--hands down!

"...Muddy field in a dumpy stadium in Florida."
Cap1/Citrus bowl went through $10 million in renovations including a new artificial playing surface. And as for the Outback Raymond James is far far from dumpy.

Now taking away stadium issues and the lot I would prefer the Tigers play a Big 12 team in Dallas. With the # of kids the Tigers recruit out of east Texas I think it goes a longer way in recruiting.

Damned skippy! Think strategic gains! (Although to be fair, Florida has a wealth of talent LSU should--and does--recruit)

I say the cotton. It's a great stage for the program playing a day before the BCSNCG in prime-time. I also like the idea of playing a team from the Big 12 again.

That's for sure. However, the competition for that talent is much greater with the Big 3 +1 Florida schools than in Texas (IMHO)

Isn't that because they played somewhere around 5 games in one week in that piece of crap stadium? HS championship games, some lesser bowles etc... first.

yeah, there were a lot of games played on that field leading up to last year's Cap1 bowl.
Obviously, the field surface is a moot point this year as the Cap1 went to field turf, but for anyone that has never been to the Cap1 bowl... not only is that stadium run down and crappy compared to many stadiums, it is also located in a very bad area in Orlando as well. Compared to other bowl games, there is very little "fanfare" and stuff to do around the stadium on GameDay.
I totally get that some out there might prefer Cap1, and that's ok because I understand the reasoning as the Cap1 is technically a better bowl against a higher ranked opponent. Nonetheless, I prefer the Cotton this particular year, and I think many other LSU fans do as well.
LSU to the 2011 Cotton Bowl!

Also, if anyone else feels as strongly as I do about Cotton over Cap1, here are some public emails of note LSU Directory:
lem042@lsu.edu; football@lsu.edu; vausbe1@lsu.edu; athletics@lsu.edu; alleva@lsu.edu; chancellor@lsu.edu; vincent@lsu.edu
Also, I urge LSU fans to attend WHATEVER bowl game we get chosen in. Although I prefer Cotton, I'll definitely be making the trip to Orlando and cheering on the Tigers if that's where we end up.

Did any of you people that want us in the cap 1 bowl actually go to it last year? Not even mentioning going to Gainesville this year as well. I've had enough of Florida for one year

the Cap 1 will feature one of the big ten co-champs.
11-1 Mich State Sparty
much better than a team coming off a 3rd loss in the B12 champ game.

You do realize that if the Cap One pays LSU more money, they could care less about everything else right?

Yeah, I know that. And I realize the Cap1 is a very possible destination. Nonetheless, I'd prefer the Cotton.
But hey, like I said, I'm gonna go regardless of where we play and i'll be cheering like hell for the Tigahs!
