When you lose your #2 pitcher in game 2 of the CWS it throws an incredible burden on your staff. That we made it to the finals is impressive and eliminating OSU was sweet.

My disappointment lasted about 30 minutes and it's on to next season - can't wait for it to start. I'm disappointed we lost but even more so that we played so poorly. Just didn't play our best ball when we needed to. (Kudos to the Gators. They played mistake free in the field, made some plays, and their pitching was dominant.)

Complaint: three of 'em . . .
1) We didn't cement our lineup until way late in the season.
2) Reid and Beau should've platooned at DH depending on the pitcher.
3) The entire regular season needs to be shaped to get to and compete in Omaha.

Onward! Time to turn the page and get ready for 2018!

PM needs to do some basic situational baseball study with his teams. This is not the first team that made bonehead plays at key times. A few come to mind:

1. sliding to where you protect the run scoring;
2. Knowing when you should catch a foul ball in key situations;
3. Knowing when trying to stretch a single into a double is smart and not;
4. Understanding how to work a pitcher when they dominate. There are good outs early in a game to get the pitch count up on someone. Do your best to stretch an at bat is the best defense against dominate pitching.
5. In today's college baseball LEARN TO BUNT!!!!!!! Even after the interference call they had a great chance to tie the game, just bunt to the 1st base line and Kramer scores uncontested.
6. Learn that you are not suppose to run from 3rd on a hard hit ball to the right, wait to see what play is made.

The team did much better than I expected this year, but PM teams are not mentally tough. They do not bounce back from adversity very well.

Huh?

Coomes/Slaughter was the only real moving part once Watson settled in.

No.

I mostly agree with you, but this team got shelled 13-1 last Monday, and came back and dominated that same team TWICE in two days.

Yes, they were mentally focused after the bombing. But, unfortunately it did not last. With that said, this was a better less talented team at LSU. When our pitcher went down, I thought they would be bounced out after game 3. They hung tough and did a good as can be expected.

1.) Losing Walker hurt our pitching staff big time.

2.) Beating Oregon State twice in a row was a feat in and off itself.

3.) Our best players did NOT come through for us during these 2 games. It's not a knock on them. They got us here. We just needed a big knock from Diechman or a 3 for 3 night from one of the top 2 batters.

4.) Game 2 was a total team loss. Everyone had a hand in it. Whether it was a defensive error, poor base-running, or striking out with 2 on and nobody out, everyone that played would like to have 1 or 2 situations back to do-over.

5.) Florida, although not very flashy, played almost flawless baseball. No errors. Patience at the plate. No base-running blunders. We did not.

6.) We had our chances in both games but we just couldn't get over the hump.... and that's ok. That's baseball. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be. There were too many things going Florida's way.

7.) All in all I'm super proud of our team. You could tell how much they wanted it and how much they cared about each other. They just came up a little bit short of their ultimate goal.

Most fundamentally unsound LSU Baseball team I've ever seen.

Base running, sacrificing, and ability to work a pitcher was poor from beginning of the season to the end.

We were near the top of the SEC in stolen bases and sacrifices this year. One of the best fielding teams in the conference. Also the toughest team to strike out. Aggressive base running and an aggressive approach at the plate are what got us here and can be feast or famine but people only seem to want to focus on the famine.

Well said! And appreciate that you didn't just join the crowd of making excuses and/or blaming the coach. GEAUX tigers

Disappointed, of course. But I feel horrible for the seniors that stayed to pursue their dreams of a national championship. Kudos for them. They taught our young players a lot over the course of the season, and LSU baseball will benefit greatly from that. So sad to see all of them go, but wish them much success at the next level.

I think the future is bright for our program. Thanks to each of our players and coaches for the great season.

I think Skip once said he wanted his lineup cemented by Tax Day. Watson didn't "settle in" until post-season batting 5th. Our lineup was too fluid, too late in the season to maximize its potential.

Not sure what's funny about suggesting Reid should DH vs righties and Beau vs lefties. They hit about the same in '16.

That it's better to lose a game here-n-there throughout the regular season if it means being better prepared for the post-season. Ben McDonald noted in one of the CWS broadcasts about how pitchers (especially freshmen) are tired. So maybe we should consider resting the young arms someway throughout the season. Not sure I'm splainin' this well.

When it was clear the top of the batting order wasn't hitting, I wish PM had gone all "Skip" on his team (see Warren Morris) in game 2 vs. Florida and replaced at least one of the 1-2-3 batters with a non-starter.

Plus, I hope for his sake that KRob un-dyes and cuts his hair.

Dicipline at the plate is awful, swing at very bad pitches was a big problem

Injuries for several pitchers was terrible

Not bunting in certain situations hurt

But we have a young team with players with CSS Experience will helmet tremendous sper's o
