I also think that Gerry did some good things at LSU. He was stubborn and should have hired better coordinators, but remember LSU was no better than 6th or 7th in the SEC in terms of a coaching staff budget. Mark Emmert not only spent the money to get Saban, but he gave Saban the money to hire a quality staff.

The only good thing that came out of the Curly Hallman years was getting better seats in MY name!

Hmmm....mike archer took a program (that won the SEC in 1986) over in 1987 (arguably the best team in the nation that year when healthy) and sent it in the shitter. Curley took over the turd and kept it floating in the shitter. Gotta give Archer some love too.

Hmmm.....
So what does the Rant think about that "Job saving win!" for Curley vs. Bama in 1993?
Were you OK with keeping Curley around another year in 1994, or were you ready for a change regardless?
I was in High School at the time and recall being indignant about keeping him around another year. I was ready for a better coach to build on the 1993 (near bowl) season.

Yeah, but if LSU had made the BCSNCG under Hallman it would not have been as difficult to get tickets as it currently is....lol.
I use to enjoy those seasons under Hallman, I could sit up there in my upper south endzone ticket with about another 25 people in the whole section. No problems going to bathroom, concessions, could stretch my legs down into the next row. Hell, could even burn cigars because nobody was around to complain

yeah, i blame Archer at least if not more than Hallman. At least Hallman could get some talent in spots. Archer was an abortion of a recruiter. Worst talent LSU has ever had was when Archer exited.

Yeah, but Archer could at least coach - he coached LBers, good ones, at the professional level. Hallman couldn't pour pi$$ out of a boot with instructions written on the heel and tutors helping him with the big words.
I don't want to give Archer too much of a pass, as the slide most definitely started on his watch, but he coached a 10-win season - Curley AVERAGED a 4-win season without ever breaking .500.

Yeah, Archer couldn't recruit (and was way in over his head as was ultimately proven), but Curley would have gone 5-6 with that team Archer won 10 games with.
Archer > Curley
Curley had no business being a position coach on a major conference team, much less head coach.
