Yeah, they can. What part of “they make the rules” are you not following?
Like any organization, there are established bylaws. The NCAA is not setup to enforce criminal law its setup to enforce fair play. They don’t make up rules as they go. This rule and it’s punishment existed long before Fulton registered with the NCAA.

I do agree that the kids with stolen guns should get suspended, much longer than Fulton. But, you can’t try to cheat a drug test and expect it to go over well.
If the NCAA lifted the ban, that’s basically them telling every other kid to attempt to cheat his drug test. Would be a very bad look.

What is this waiver supposed to do?

LSU suspended him, not the NCAA.

He attempted to cheat a steroids test because he thought it was for weed. You're right there was no crime committed which is exactly why this is going to be a set up for not equally treating everybody the same. The institution in charge is completely responsible for being logical and rational regardless of what a rule States it's their job to interpret it based on circumstance.
The NCAA, to me, is becoming very inconsistent. Let's see their title 9 investigation, or lack the of.
This is exactly right. Any good lawyer can take this shite and kill them. Again, I hope that people with money to burn will take it to them and lets see what a judge would say. Someone needs to get the balls to do it.
You have players in the NFL getting a 4 game suspension for testing POSITIVE. This is a young kid that was barely 18 and you are taking 2 years of his play away for "thinking" about cheating and then ultimately testing negative. It's excessive and there is no judge in this country that wouldn't agree.
I'll donate $500.

He would have done better with guns and weed in a park in Monroe!

Even if the test was for the 5 panel drugs dude should’ve just pissed in the cup. The NCAA isn’t suspending you a year for testing positive for pot. Only half a season.
Well LSU has some awful people in the support staff positions (see compliance). No doubt this could have been communicated to him better. If the kid was working with all of the info he’d have been fine.

Also hard to suspend someone when charges are dropped..
Kid tried to cheat a drug test. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Cheating a drug test administered by the NCAA, but NCAA shouldn’t suspend him. Lmao get real
Posted on 8/9/18 at 7:22 pm to SulphursFinest
I disagree. If the NCAA would have looked at this and realized this penalty didn't fit the crime and let him off on time served then readdress the punishment for said violation. I believe it would have been a good look for NCAA. A 6 game or season suspension is plenty to deter a player from making that mistake. No player would risk rhat length of time. I think the NCAA missed a chance to fix their image a little, and they didn't.

Break an NCAA rule, get the NCAA punishment. Break the law, get the law’s punishment. It’s not hard.

While I agree, I have yet to see a 2 yr. suspension issued by the NCAA.
Jim Boehiem got caught playing ineligible players over 5 yrs and only served a 9 game suspension.

Really??? I had no idea. They could just easily change the punishment when they realized how ludicrous it is.

I hate to tell ya but the NCAA is just being consistent with its established rule for this infraction.

Again while I know it’s a rule. This is the first instance that I’ve seen(did a little google search) a 2yr suspension on a single player.
