Some of you don't seem to realize that most schools already lose money on athletics. Sure they make money on Football & Basketball but all the minor sports, coaches, travel, and expenses burn up any excess they may have.

If the pressure continues for more money for all and costs get out of hand
it will cause some Athletic Departments to discontinue some sports and Football.

Nope. NCAA regulates it to 20.

I lived in many shitty 1 bedroom apartments after I graduated college, not to mention the crap holes I lived in while in college. You ignore the thousand's of $$$$ it costs the average joe to get a college education. The players are student athletes who have their tuition & housing paid for, get fed well and have the best health care. They are getting paid.

You also couldn't run a 4.3 and didn't risk life-altering injuries on a football while a school and community made millions with you face on the cover of their marketing materials.

So the school is giving you additional exposure on Marketing Materials and you are going to complain about it?

Out of 105 players (85 scholarship players + 20 walkons), how many fit your description?

And then we have title 9. Let's not even pretend congress will ever change the law, especially in today's climate, to only pay male athletes in revenue sports.

I see this crap all the time and I would like you to show me where millions are being made by using a likeness of any college player. If it ever happened that some considerable money was ever paid to a Community for the likeness of a player I want you to provide that information or stop spreading nonsense.

They do not have "shitty places to live".

They have professional chefs who cook them whatever they want at every meal.

They live in nice apartments.

They have their tuition paid and it is worth thousands every year.

They receive $800 to $1000 per month in total cost of attendance money.

They all seem to have vehicles.

Their books are paid for.

Their tutors are free.

Their medical issues are paid for.

Stop with the poor pitiful BS. They are students not professionals and are more than fairly compensated.

Amen!

And Pay for Play is a misnomer. The schools will not be paying athletes. Very few athletic depts are in the black. NIL legislation will allow prominent athletes to make money outside the university from advertising, autograph signing etc. A small % of college football players will be able to take advantage of this is any significant way

The PAC 12 players request for 50/50 revenue split would result in those schools having to cancel all of their other sports and then still lose money.

Any college football player can go to Canada and try to play ball or go out and get a real job. Nobody is holding them hostage to play college ball

Would you work if your employer gave you 12 places you could eat, a shitty one bedroom apartment and additional training and no salary? None of that shite you listed is money which is what we all work for.

wow, you're leaving out one little thing .... a free education!!

Which many of these guys can't afford but can set them up for a prosperous life.

Do try to be honest when you're making an argument.

Getting benefits isn’t pay.

Dude you are dense. It is all items they don't have to pay for out of pocket. Plus they can start their adult life whether in or out of the NFL without massive student debt.

You don't have a job do you?

1. They ARE getting paid. Rooms, meals, books, tuition, lab fees, medical care, experts training their bodies, experts training their skills so they can hopefully get to the next level. How much do you think that's worth on the open market?

2. Most importantly all of this is tax free. Yes Sparky if the athletes were getting paid they would have to pay taxes on the cash.

Then right out of high school, don't go to college on a scholarship, hire an agent, train and enter the draft. If you're good enough at 18 or 19, the pros will draft you.

We have posters on here who have their head buried in the sand, but newsflash: Every top player and family gets paid handsomely under the table (football and men's basketball, the sports that matter). This bleeding heart lib claim that these poor players are exploited is such garbage. They're treated like kings and are living the high life while in school. Now, just like in the real world, when you cease providing value to your employer, the gravy train stops. Deal with it.

If they’re getting paid they would receive a 1099 and get taxed on that payment which doesn’t happen.

Maybe they should be taxed then, and that would clear this argument up.

And somebody is paying for those benefits. It costs a lot of money to supply those benefits. Cant act like its all free. At the end of the day, the players can choose to do whatever they want. Where is the issue? Play if you want or don't play. Instead lets just sit around and make a bunch of extra demands because the schools are making money. Its not some CEO sitting up on a hill hoarding money. Its a SCHOOL.

Easy solution for this: pay them 40k a year, they MUST be enrolled and pay for their own tuition and room/board @ LSU. Add fees (because there are more and more every year) for medical care and training staff, tutors and all the other perks that they get beyond what a non-athlete student gets. Once all that is paid for by the athlete out of his salary from the school, whatever he has left will be his to keep. Now, if they take taxes out, there may not even be enough to cover everything they need to pay for but then they are being "paid to play". I guess if they are really good and produce (aka starters) they get a raise. I would bet that the student-athletes at LSU get way more than 40k per year in housing, room/board and perks but that should be a good starting number.

This would end the debate on if they are paid or not.
