conversations with Woodward
Personally, I don't believe Woodward would leak information from a private conversation he had with one of his coaches.

If he would do something like that he's not the man I think he is. And he'll never be able to have a candid conversation with ANY of his coaches if they believe he'll blab about it to someone else.

That's straight from Management 1001.

More likely the "high up in TAF" person speculated on what he thought might have been said in a conversation between the AD and Mainieri.

EDIT: Or, the OP is full of crap....

Source said Mainieri has had small conversations with Woodward regarding stepping down after this season

I haven’t heard anything about him stepping down but i did hear that they had a meeting and either PM or Woodward was not happy when he left. One of them wanted to shake hands and the other didn’t and just rolled out.

If he wants to win so bad why doesn’t he go get some outside assistants?

Baseball is severely handicapped by NCAA scholarship and coaching regulations. It's hard to attract quality people to non paying positions.

I do think this year has taken a toll on him with the preseason expectations but for whatever reason PM hasn't been able to reach this team - yet!

The struggles and injuries of the newcomers has been the main issue this year and Hess not being that dominant Fri night ace to take pressure off the entire staff.

After this year, you lose a lot to the draft and who knows with the incoming class. It might be another tough year next year he's not up for.

I do think an assistant shakeup needs to happen but even that admits that he made a mistake in the first place.

CPM has shaken up his assistant responsibilities before. Given the limits the NCAA puts on baseball, a coach has to make some hard choices sometimes.
Somehow I believe that he has a better handle on what's going on and what might be needed than a flock of internet know-it-alls.
But that's just me.

And my high sauces.

What?

I think he's calling Nolan Cain, a former LSU pitcher and our recruiting coordinator, the hitting coach.

Nevermind that the ACTUAL hitting coach is Sean Ochinko, another former LSU player and volunteer assistant.

Both of our paid assistants have a background in pitching. I have no idea how common this is.

Sometimes people just don’t work out, I’ve hired people that looked good on paper but it turned out they weren’t a good fit for the job due to a bunch of different reasons, doesn’t mean I (or anyone else that hires people) made a mistake every time it doesn’t work out.

I am not trying to be a homer but to place all the blame on CPM isn’t 100% right imo

Now if there aren’t any changes after this season then that is 100% on him

why would he voluntarily step down and leave over $5.5 million on the table? If LSU wants him gone then Paul should make LSU fire him and pay the buyout.

If he truly wanted to retire and LSU also were ok with letting him go to move forward. They could work something out. He wouldn’t get the whole contract but he could possibly get some of it as a nice retirement package. I get that a lot of people don’t like him but he has done great things at LSU and they could work with him.

I’ve been hearing the same thing lately, from different sources. They all are saying PM is retiring at the end of the season.

We’ll see if they’re right or not.

Yeah I wouldn't be shocked if PM retired after this season if it ends early and unceremoniously. As you said, some type of settlement could be reached with respect to the remainder of his contract.

I WOULD be shocked if OP actually had legit information leaked from a private conversation between Mainieri and Woodward.

If he retires then LSU wouldn't owe him anything. There would be nothing for LSU to "work out". Thus, you simply just let him retire.

But I guess I could also see a scenario where he doesn't really want to coach anymore, but sticks around simply to collect on the contract. In that case it would probably be better for both sides to work out something so LSU doesn't have a HC who is not fully invested in the program. Still, if I'm LSU, in no way do I fire him and pay the buyout. If he his hinting that he really wants to go, then I call his bluff in hopes of saving that $5.5 mill owed if LSU fires him.

(Note: this is all complete conjecture. This season has likely been tough on Paul both on and off the field. But I don't think he is ready to hang it up and LSU isn't ready to fire him)

Think it through: how would "someone who works for the team" know what took place in a private meeting between the athletic director and the head coach?

Because he talks to the coaches everyday maybe?
