Spoke last night with a reliable source that is high up in the TAF. We briefly talked about CPM and his future at LSU.

Source said Mainieri has had small conversations with Woodward regarding stepping down after this season IF the Tigers take an early exit from post-season play.

Still a big if, but at least CPM knows that he and the team are simply not cutting it right now. CPM wants to win as bad as we do.

Doesn’t make sense. If he wants to win so bad why doesn’t he go get some outside assistants?

I don't have a hard time believing this, but I have a hard time believing this information was leaked somehow. Why would Woodward or CPM tell anyone they had this conversation? What is there to gain?

Thus, I declare bullshite.

This is entirely plausible. I wouldn't go as far as to say when, but this move would make a ton of sense.

Do people think that CPM doesn’t know this? The man has reached the peak of his profession I believe he knows when his team isn’t performing at that level.

man, this has been discussed dozens of times on here. have you been living under a rock? the NCAA only allows two paid assistants and PM has two. you may not like that we have a hitting coach that is mostly a recruiter but we still have him.

Hard to attract quality volunteers...can't pay another assistant!

He would still have 5 years left on one of the largest contracts in college baseball. Unless he just flat doesn't want to coach anymore, why would he voluntarily step down and leave over $5.5 million on the table? If LSU wants him gone then Paul should make LSU fire him and pay the buyout.

Mainieri may know that the performance isn't up to LSU standards. But he's got plenty of job security in the sense that even if he's let go in the next season or two, he's going to be paid for the remaining 5 seasons of his contract.

I could see him stepping aside, prior to this season I would have said NO CHANCE but I truly believe the death of his father changed him early during this season and he hasn't returned to form (understandably)! He just seems apathetic now and though it's just speculation, I feel that may be the cause. Whatever the result

I call bull shite also. i'm sure PM has not gotten over his dad's death because it was during the season and he really hasn't had time to grieve but this years frustration probably comes from other sources; mainly injuries and lack of leadership on the team. if he is indeed burned out and lost the fire in his belly he may work out some sort of settlement with LSU but this shite ain't leaking out now.
