Agreed. Also, the landscape of college baseball changed completely with covid and there's no way anyone could have predicted that a player like Crews would ever be on campus. Unfortunately, there just doesn't seem to be a spot for him to play right now. It sucks too because I was super excited when he decided to come to LSU instead of going pro.

Travinski started at DH one game I believe. That’s not consistent “opportunity” as some may call it. Starts are earned. You don’t just get them because most of the other players have at some point or another. Some of those guys started because of injuries anyway.
But it was at least one. Hampton honestly had none this year. He’s had 4 ABs in garbage time going 2-4 with a double. Can’t really ask for much more than that. And I said it earlier in the thread. If you can’t get a spot start with two starters out and another starter who couldn’t hit over 0.100 at the time, then maybe you feel like you won’t be getting any once the competition gets tougher and people get healthy. And that’s no matter what you do during practice or when you get a late PH. I can understand the frustration watching Bianco stay in and guys like Sanford get starts.

Same. He was a big get at the time.

Sure but it also sounds like Hampton’s mom had unreasonable expectations. Situations change; we clearly brought in a freshman class this year that was going to make it difficult for Hampton to be able to come right in and get PT right away after missing the fall.

I’m going to give CPM the benefit of the doubt and assume the whole “blatant lie” about not playing football anymore is a misunderstanding between Hampton and his parents because CPM has literally zero reason to make that up.

Yeah the last at bat Hampton had looked pretty good. He may very well have started coming around and gaining confidence in his ability. That could be the reason he upset about not playing. For all we know, the guy could have worked his way into a starting role later in the season. It takes patience sometimes. He is still young. He has plenty of time to show off his skills even at LSU

And situations change again. Gio gets hurt and is out a while and doughty goes down which could have opened up another spot too. Then you had Bianco. I can understand why he would be frustrated with not getting a look over the last two weeks. When else would it happen?

Yeah, I don’t get why he would either.

Once Gio came back, his chances were going down not up.

I get it. If he didn’t think he was going to get the opportunity he wanted and felt he deserved, then more power to him for choosing to transfer. I’m just not jumping on the “CPM ran him off” train

This.

I mean, best of luck to him - I hope he lands somewhere that works out for him.

Yeah for sure, but if he continued to develop then he could’ve been one of the first guys to PH instead of one of the last

Same here. The timing isn’t right for it. If it were true about him quitting football, that discussion about scholarships would have happened at the end of the season. This had to be about PT from Mo’s POV and nothing else.

I still think the timing is odd too. It’s not like he can drop out of LSU, enroll and join the team somewhere else tomorrow. Wouldn’t he have been better off gutting out the season, taking advantage of the opportunities he did get while still practicing and training with the team, and then transferring in the summer?

Unless he’s actually sticking with football and wants to join spring practice with another team to try and get on the field in the Fall. That’s my only guess as to the logic of the timing.

And, we have at least 1 probable day 1 OF starter coming in next year in Jobert.

I don't know enough about Stephenson and Pearson yet but Jobert is a complete stud.

Watching Oral Roberts kick our arse was bad enough. I’m sure Hampton thought he could help, and probably feels upset he couldn’t; and knows if he didn’t get into that series with everyone sucking on LSU, he was never going to get in..

Well true. Could be a lot of things going on behind the scenes with all of that considering the response from the mom and the stuff Russian said about his dad not letting him sign when he wanted to just go to pro ball.
