Former LSU football player Patrick Queen presented seven Pointe Coupee Parish students with athletic scholarships worth $5,000 each.

The recipients of the first annual Patrick Queen Level Up 6IX Athletic Scholarship are De'Morion Douglas, Christopher Nelson and Emma Sparks of Livonia High School, and Daniela Corona, Jilyan Andre, Paris Hayse and Tyson Cole of the STEM Magnet Academy of Pointe Coupee.

I always feel like there’s more concrete and impactful ways to give back than handing a few thousand dollars to a kid.

Maybe he could rebuild a local park or gym or resurface some streets in his home town instead?

All of those are covered already by the incredibly excessive taxes we pay. You need to get after your local elected officials if you want that to happen.

I'm pretty sure that he has done this already. I believe he recently financed an upgraded football playing surface/track & stadium plus the gym that his old high school Livonia plays in at Stem Academy. The stadium was renamed Patrick Queen Field or something similar.

Queen already does that stuff, too. Maybe we just appreciate someone who does way more for others than anyone requires of him.

He’s not with Parks and Recreation nor is he in DOT. Dafuq is wrong with some of you people?

Maybe you should spend your money that way. It’s always interesting to listen to someone spend another’s money.

He also has a pretty decent tackle shop in New Roads.

Wish it were general scholarships instead of athletic ones.

If Patrick Queen ever needed some blood, I’d give him some of mine.
