In 2008 LSU faced these elite receivers (I did not include in previous argument because I/nor does anyone else, know who Peterson was matched up against.)
Mike Wallace (Ole Miss) 5 Catches 99 Yards 2 TD
Julio Jones (Alabama) 7 Catches 128 yards
AJ Green (Georgia) 3 Catches 89 Yards 1 TD
Percy Harvin (Florida) 6 Catches 112 Yards 2 TD
Again this was in 08, not sure who Peterson covered then. Although 09/10 the list of "elite" receivers is diminished completely.
I was at every one of these games, as I'm sure many others on the board were. Peterson was utilized sporadically by Malleveto, especially early in the season. However, it did not take long for opposing coaches to take notice when he was in the game.
In the order in which they were played: Florida, PP was not matched up with Harvin on any of his catches; Danny Mcray and Jai mostly.
UGA, PP was beaten by AJ on one catch down near the goal-line.
'Bama, Jones caught two passes with PP on him.
OM, Wallace caught two passes, 1-t.d. with PP on him. Again, that was a true freshman matched up against 4 future pros in the games being cited and he held his on quite well. They played a great deal of zone that year, more than the past two years. Many of the catches by those guys came against the porous Malleveto zone.

"Peterson's prowess is evidenced more by numbers that aren't published: 48 balls thrown to his man or his zone during the year, 23 completions, zero touchdowns allowed, 2 pass completions for over 20 yards all year. One Int. per 12 passes thrown his way ain't too shabby either."
Didn't Julio score a TD on a slant route against him?

quote:I'm sorry I can not take your word on that. I mean I was at each of those games as I have only missed probably 10 games in past 25 years home and away and a few of those came this year. I can say due to alcohol intake, the game itself, I do not watch particular players, and I doubt many others do as well. Especially from 3 years ago, I know that is not eternity. I am sure PP covered each of those players at various points in a game and doubt we remember exactly how many plays and which plays exactly.
