PP 2009 Season >>>>>>> PP 2010 Season
I think he was a better CB last year than he is this year.

(Strictly talking as a corner back and not as a KR)

yeah, but if he's terrible in the 1st but comes back with a good 2nd half, aren't you encouraged that he showed the "short memory" cliche that we always hear about when CBs get beat?

Yes, but I much rather the cliche "he is a shut down corner" or a "complete CB" like PP is talked about without looking like shite for an entire half.

I do find it funny that people are talking about what 1 player (a 1st round Top 15 pick probably) did against him. I mean wide receivers have an advantage over Cornerbacks and EVERY corner back has bad games.

Elite receivers can take advantage of a CB and smart coaches can call plays that give that WR an advantage.

Peterson is a great CB and Top 10 pick
Prince is a great CB and a Top 10 pick

Both have had bad games and standout games, the combine and needs of each team to dictate who is better. We can revisit this subject in 5 years after both are in the NFL.

A.J.Green in 2009 - 4 catches for 31 yds
Julio Jones in 2009 - 2 catches for 19 yds.

I didn't realize he played that terribly last year.

Does the PP cramp issue come into play with NFL GM.

If I was spending first round money, I would want a pretty solid answer to this question.

Please give me some backup with actual stats when PP had a bad game. I don't remember any where I would say "PP looked like shite for the entire half".

Not saying he played terrible last year, he played great. I'll be the first to admit that. His performances against those top recievers proved that.

Just saying that Prince had the better season.

That would be my only concern. Since PP has had cramping issues since Peewee football. One would hope that since NFL teams have a slew of nutritionists and sports hydration systems that this would not be an issue.

even shutdown guys get beat sometimes. and I think you're going a bit overboard with the looked like shite for an entire half, I actually saw some nice plays in that video. a couple times Blackmon just made better ones. it happens.

I do believe Peterson was guarding Childs most of last year when Childs went off for 5 for 124.

This year how many elite receivers has LSU faced where Peterson was matched up 1 on 1? Julio and..... The fact is LSU hasn't faced many actual elite WR, I am not sure which ones Prince has faced and he was burned for a half by probably the best he faced in Blackmon.

I think people need to realize LSU did not face an elite receiver in a pass happy offense like Oklahoma State which had the #3 in nation passing offense (ahead of teams like Arkansas)

Of course this isn't saying Prince is better, as I have stated numerous times wait until after combine and see what happens in NFL. However, this topic would be better on MSB where there is less biased and a more versatile group of posters, some who watched Prince play more than 1 game this season.

Im not saying hes not good, but Big 12 fans act like Blackmon is head and shoulders above the rest. The only reason he is thought of more highly than Jones is becuase Jones had a down year and Blackmon is in a great offense.....but you knew that already.

I think this guy makes some great points in this discussion.

LINK

quote:

It is difficult for a corner, who has to read quarterbacks and react to wideouts, to be fluid enough in his hips and change direction on a dime to keep up with NFL receivers. This is the major knock on Peterson. His hips are relatively stiff, which could force a position change to safety.

quote:

His(Prince) hips are extremely fluid and one of the best in the country at changing direction. He also has shown the ability to big plays when actually thrown at, as well as being physical at the line of scrimmage.

I know I am really anxious to see what PP7 runs in the 40. Do any of you guys know what he is supposed to run it at? I know every year some guys go in supposed to run very fast 40's but then don't. I really hope PP7 shows off.

He has ran a laser timed 4.37 in the 40 before the season.

I had a friend(former player) tell me he was running in the 4.2s(hand timed) the winter break of his sophomore year.

Bednarik, Thorpe, All-American honor, and his measurable will make him probably one of the top 3 picks in the draft.

I think NFL teams know more than all us combined. I don't think 1 team would draft prince ahead of Peterson

He is changing direction a lot in that video (from playing defense to chasing down the WR who caught the ball an trying to stop him from scoring).

He is not a physical CB at the line of scrimage. Far from it.

What is also not added to the stats of that day is the pass interference play where he was burnt bad and decided to tackle the WR (could have added 50 more yards) and another holding call that negated a 15-20 yard play.
