I enjoyed the collective gasp from the confused patrons as to how their beloved Cornhuskers could not be the best at everything.

As if LSU fans wouldn't have had the same reaction.

Been to Nebraska or lived around Cornhusker fans who know nothing about any other teams than their own?

You are describing many fan bases look at this thread where people are offering opinions and admitting to either never having watched Prince, or only watching him once.

Percy Harvin (Florida) 6 Catches 112 Yards 2 TD

I think PP covered Julio the most extensively out of any of these. after that, prob Wallace. he was barely playing when we played UF (Malveto!) and was pretty much rotating with Jai/ playing some nickel vs. UGA (Jai gave up the long TD to AJ)

08 vs. Julio was quite a battle when PP was on him. really my first long look at PP, and you could see the skillz.

I'm from Nebraska actually. Lincoln.

And every other Husker fan I know had no gripes about it. Just like with the Heisman last year. Every Husker fan alive wanted and thought Suh should win, and they were dissapointed when he didn't, but they didn't act like Ingram didn't deserve it. Same with PP and the Thorpe this year.

But don't act like Husker fans don't know anything about college football outside of Lincoln.

Yeah I was not about to go and look up video from each of these game to determine who covered who.

The SEC Past 2 season has been devoid the "elite" big time receiver.

Sorry-I've been here about 10 years and I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard anyone ever mention that any player or any team besides Nebraska could possibly be any good.

Same thing happens every year: Neb jumps out to a 4-0 record beating So State Pacific Tech and automatically they think they should be #1 and whoever their best player is deserves the Heisman.

(And, I've lived in La for 27 years and BR for a year). Patrick Peterson was the first player in a long time that the LSU fanbase thought had a shot.

Big deal. I think Prince is better. Unlike half of the people in this discussion, I've watched both Prince and PP play more than a game this year.

I can understand it. There are Husker fans out there that are like that, no doubt. But there are also a ton of them out there who are very knowledgeable about College Football as a whole and give credit when it's due. But it's the same with every fan base, with both sides.

Shot at what? The NFL? Heisman? What?

Heisman, LSU fans thought Dorsey, Clayton, Reed, Faulk in some capacity over the years.

And Prince was the first player in almost 10 years that the Husker fanbase had a shot at the Thorpe...

I meant the Heisman. I didn't hear any serious Heisman talk about any LSU players over the years other than Peterson. Taylor Martinez had a good game against average Washington and K St and the Heisman talk was endless. Seems kind of humorous now.

Even ESPN was giving Martinez hype for a shot at the Heisman, so I can see where that came from. A lot of it got out of hand though. 11 year old kids seeing Taylor break off long runs like that, and then they go and make facebook pages about him and etc.

I take it you mean a number of elite guys. not sure how many yrs the SEC actually has more than 3 or so of those at once, or even your defn of elite.

Julio, AJ, and Alshon are elite guys IMO. Cobb's not one to be taken lightly either (even if he's not the big pro prospect).

I could be completely off base in this but as I was listening to the guy introduce the award (and butcher it) he kept mentioning how great of an overall athelete Thorpe was. IF that was a consideration then it's Peterson hands down over Prince.

Well I guess I should have clarified and said "elite" in terms of who LSU played. The SEC as a whole does not really produce "elite" it seems (in regards to draft position and "experts")

Oh, yeah. Easily. I wouldn't argue that.

I don't even mind PP winning it at all. I root for LSU just as much as I do Nebraska. But that's not the point. PP deserved it.
