game. I still have no idea how we managed to lose that game, against what turns out to be a very average Alabama team that sucks shite on offense. At home when you're leading the conference.
Jones decided to break out the worst zone defense in this history of college basketball and slow the game down to Alabama's pace of play. There are many things in LSU style of play this season that should be on some kind of "how not to play fundamental basketball" tape, but their zone defense should be at the top of the list.
I have never seen a zone defense so equally adept at giving up easy baskets inside as it is uncontested 3 pointers. If you ever wonder why LSU's offense is so bad against the zone, just realize they only practice against their own awful defense

Great point, and this is clearly coaching. But then you have dumbass posters like T who apparently think Simmons deserves as much blame as the coaches.

It's because they just don't seem to care. Why care if they can't even care. ugh.

They look like 5 guys playing a playing a pickup game at the rec center on offense.
They look worse on defense. We have zero rim protection, victor cant do it alone and he is not a natural rim protector. And ben literally gives zero craps on def. He constantly watches the other team score. Ben gets a few steals because he wont slide his feet into position, he just swipes at the ball from out if position.
During our second half of the season swoon simmons abandoned all signs of defense; yesterday he watched guys score in his area releatedly.
News flash to our idiot fans. When we get outrebounded and out scored in the paint by more than 20 each, which part of our team is costing us? The inside players or outside? Duhhhh, the post. We dont have one.
We look like rec ball because NO ONE is playing big man ball.
We watch rebounds and have zero commitment on defense.
19 and 11 stats from simmons cannot overcome allowing the other team the completely dominate the post.
And that is definitely partially simmons fault. I like ben but he just doesnt care. Ben is simply far from blameless for the results if this season. However everyone can blindly think otherwise and thats cool with me, but to those who watched ALL of lsu's games, we saw the reality. I wish it werent true but it is.
Bash Johnny jones all you want, but he did more with trent johnson's leftovers his first year than we are doing with ben simmons. We had a team go 19-11 record wise with nobody decent on it.
I honestly think the JJ criticism is slightly unfair. And to not place any fault on ALL of the players is just ridiculous.

I still care even if the team doesn't. I'm a never say die person. We look like shite and there's no reason to expect anything differently, but Friday at 2:30 I'll be rooting for them like I always do, even if they undoubtedly get drubbed.

Are they, though? How in the hell do you pull in another major recruit after you've show what you do to a Ben Simmons? What could possibly be the draw for coming to play under Jones? This really worries me. We were in the spotlight and failed miserably.
This is spot on. One and done's come to college for 1 reason and that is to chase a title. Showing that one of the most talented players in the country can't even make the tournament is a major turnoff to any elite player who may consider LSU while JJ is still the coach.

Ben is very good on both ends of the court

i don't think i saw him defend a single player this year.
And he has no offensive game except for lay ups and put backs. No jump shot. No repertoire of post moves.
Yes, he's got exceptional athleticism and ball handling for a guy his size, but that's about it at this point.

Much of the reason his defense is soft is because he cannot get in foul trouble. If you follow this team all season long he got into foul trouble quite often in the pre conference against very poor teams. Without ben on the court we are worse than Auburn. Not only does he want to stay on the court but he knows this

They just can't defend. Florida had 91 the other day. That short white jewish mexican kid from UH scored at will...that's the game I really started to worry about this team. If Hornsby doesn't come back and drop 32 we lose in regulation by 15

you know it's possible to defend without fouling, right?

I was at this game and thought the same thing. Victor has made a huge difference defending in the post, but without him we might be .500.
That game showed who we were defensively. We can't stop dribble perpetration, don't fight for boards, and give up too many second chance points. And don't even get me started on the offense...
I really want them to win and get in the tourney. This team is still good enough to make a run if certain guys get hot and we get a few breaks with matchups.

Led the team in steals and block without defending a single player? Damn that is impressive.

The comparisons between Barnes and Jones earlier in this thread are laughable.
Barnes' recruited multiple NBA talents, made a Final Four, three Elite Eights.
Maybe he still underachieved and maybe he's not the coach he used to be, but we all know Johnny isn't reaching those heights.

You serious clark?
You watch SEC basketball? Ask Victor. Yeah, let's have them both on the bench.
You post a ton of basketball. I expect a little better from you. I'm not saying he's cares to lock down defend, but I've seen many occasions where giving up the foul would have been crucial....and he simply gives up the 2.
Since sarcasm is your thing, you do realize he only gets 5 fouls before disqualification don't you?
Posted on 3/6/16 at 12:51 pm to pellietigersaint
Most of victor's fouls have been when he is in good defensive position but then extends his arms over the offensive guy. I have no idea why the coaches arent telling him to go straight up instead of reaching over the guy, but what he does has always been a foul. Simmonson the other hand usually just moves out of the way like he's in a pickup game.
Posted on 3/6/16 at 12:53 pm to The Truth 34
Yea, I love ya Truth, but you can't even put yourself in position to look like you may foul half the time.
Just sucks because I've said it for months...Simmons will kill the NBA, but he's not built for the college game

i'm not getting into it with you abut this. i've watched this kid not even attempt to defend the basket all season long. i'm not saying he needs to swat at everything put up but at least attempt to try and not allow layups right in front of you. that's all i'm saying.
ETA: and it's not just him. it's the whole team, so he gets roped in with the entire team. the lack of defense pisses me off more than anything.
