When watching games, almost all of the plays that I call horizontal, result in lost or little positive yardage. Most of these are behind or near the line-of-scrimmage. It also opens up the potential of the DB jumping the route and causing a costly turnover.

We need to create more downfield routes, especially over the middle with the TE (Taylor) or a quick slot receiver (Anderson). These can result in 5-?? yard gains and keep the chains moving.

It's one game, those have been mostly successful forus when we run them and at least some of those are dump routes.

I think a few more quick slants and the tight end chipping then peeling off over the middle would be a very effective play of the RPO when Nuss does pull. I think he is not pulling it enough in that situation and often not dumping quickly when he does.

Nuss throws 9 go routes into triple coverage a game. The problem is that none of them are completed

I still have visions of Spurrier's wideouts running free on slants across the middle. A haunting memory!

I agree. The go routes are good to stretch the field but the comp rate has been pretty low.

The side-to-side throws aren't getting us anywhere.

Seems like last year and maybe earlier this year, the TE was targeted a lot more, possible as a check-down option.

We need to sustain drives with positive mid passes as our running games is dismal

Every excuse in the world instead of just stating the truth, the qb sucks

He sure did last game, but he's done some really good things over the course of the year. Hopefully he brings the good game for Bama

I agree, this throwing the ball all the way across the field isn't working and won't work against Alabama. Nuss seems to me to be attempting to be trying to be joe Burrow and depending upon his receivers on 50/50 balls, which worked for joe but doesn't for Nuss.

I don't know the answer because I'm not proficient in all the nuances of modern football, but it appears to me we have 2 running plays, both up the middle. That is dependent upon your OL winning the battle, not just breaking even, and a play call that has taken the linebackers out of position. All the defense has to do against us is the DL not be beaten and the LBs stay in position.

The long throws are typically contested throws because LSU doesn't have elite speed, with the exception of Hilton. Anderson can run, but he's so small, it's going to be difficult for him to fight off a bigger defensive back for the ball. There's no telling how many times Chase, Jefferson, Nabers and Thomas went up over defenders to make catches. With the exception of an occasional play by Lacey or perhaps Hilton, we don't have that this year.

Without elite speed to get separation or size to body defenders, Nussmeier has to make almost perfect throws. Inexplicably, when a receiver does break free on a deep route, Nussmeier mostly overthrows them. He'll make some beautiful throws down the sideline to receivers tightly covered, then miss wide open shots. Hard to figure.

Unfortunately Nuss is below avg on his deep balls, or our recievers can't get open and are slow.

After watching daniels just drop it in the bucket last season it sucks to watch us struggle with this

Nuss is averaging 325 yards a game. Yes the INTs have been at bad times and cost us. But the passing game is far from the problem with this squad.

Did you forget Ole Miss? He's completing 51% of his passes AGAINST SEC opponents with 7TDS and 6INTS. He sucks.

To his credit, he threw dimes all across the field in the first half of both Arky and TAMU that were not caught.

The problem with the pass game is that we don't utilize the middle of the field in the intermediate range nearly enough. Especially with the great TE's we have.

We threw that inside slant to Anderson for the TD in the 2Q last week and then went totally away from the quick passing game between the hashes. When you have a TE like we have in Mason Taylor, you have to utilize him up the seam. He's always running side to side, though very successful. We should use Taylor the way Kelly used Eifert at ND.

I don’t think he sucks. He could be more efficient and make better decisions, but the absence of an effective run game means that the defense is better able to defend the pass (keeping more guys out of the box to disrupt passing lanes) and the quarterback is almost entirely responsible for moving the offense down the field through the air (more likely to need to force throws).

Clearly something is going on with his reluctance to run the ball (zone read or scrambling), but if that is the case, then the play calling is not taking it into account.

2 of our most used WRs (with Daniels and Hilton banged up) are 5’8”. Tough to win down the field when that is the case

No, we need to shorten the passing game. Way too many passes down field that are always low-percentage plays.

Nuss is 20-62 (32%) throwing the ball over 20yds

And you want more uncatchable overthrows?

Im not talking over 20 yards. I mentioned 5-?? and moving the chains. BTW, what are most QBs percentages over 20?
